Obviously if Sony did not have 8K this year, then these stupid haters will bash them for being behind the times, but when they do implement it, they'd still get hated for having more gimmicks into their phones. In short, they'd get hated for whatever their choice would be, so it's just better to have it since they've just announced their 8K Sony Alpha 1 camera and what better way to promote how their Xperia cameras are inspired by Alpha cameras than to have the same capabilities as their current flagship Alpha camera.

YUKI93, 09 Mar 2021Japan-only? Sounds like the Xperia 8 to me.Yeah, Sony has a few exclusive smartphones in its home country, such as Ace, 8 (as you mentioned), and 1 Professional Edition. Though with Xperia 10 II serve as the successor for Xperia 8/8 Lite and Sony's first global midrange phone to be homologated for Japan, and Xperia 1 PE succeeded by Xperia Pro, Ace (2) will remain Sony exclusive offering in Japan.

What a disappointment. I was somewhat looking forward to this phone. I wish someone would make a phone I can upgrade my S9 from and stay the same size or smaller. I finally got to hold a 12 Mini in my hand recently and if it wasn't for the hassle of swapping from Android I'd just go for it.

Long story short: Sony decades of expert experience in the Multimedia Industry (Cinema, Television, etc.) and its standardization that Sony has dealt with. There are a few standard aspect ratios in the multimedia industry, 4:3, 16:9, and 21:9 are one of them.

Even iPhone 12 mini sales performance was below expectation, compared to their bigger siblings. despite the love from tech enthusiasts. It's the same case with XZ2 Compact and S10e.

2) 12 + 12... moreIf sensor size between 1" - 1/1.2", I rather take 16-20mp bayer, rather than 48-50mp one. ISO performance, DR, low light performance are the better trade off.
If its Quad Bayer, thats a diiferent story.

TBH, not surprising, the "overdue" Xperia Ace successor, the poor performance selling of XZ2 Compact, Sony's last compact flagship phone, compared to XZ2, even the $1K XZ2 Premium, and Japanese people rarely use their phone during their productive time that doesn't need flagship processors most the time, already expects this phone to be Xperia Ace 2 successor rather than Xperia Compact lineup. Especially Compact "spirit" has been transferred into Xperia 5 Series, which's a combination of vanilla and compact flagship.

Sony designs best compact phones but the internals lag behind competitors. Expect it to come India in future.

Maybe the compact phone days are over. i'm waiting for xperia 5 III. It's tempting to get a 5II for it's battery endurance at 60hz :)

Also, Gossips from China about one smartphone (brand name was not said) to have triple 48MP. People suspect is Xperia because it is bayer sensor (something like 1/1.1") ..

If only Ace was more cheaper, I would jump on one. It has OIS and it's small. The only other option is S10e.
