The majority are just typical normies who have zero interest in technology whatsoever. As long as they can do Facebook and WhatsApp alongside some mobile gaming like Genshin Impact or Mobile Legends Bang Bang or even PUBG Mobile, that is more than enough for them.

Heck, I even replaced my previous daily-driving two-year-old Microsoft Lumia 950 XL with the smaller Lumia 950 a few months ago because the XL is way too big! Honestly speaking, if I can have a modernised Sony Xperia Compact series in 2021 with the same hardware as the latest model of the flagship-tier Xperia 1 series, 11 out of 10 I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

Is sad thou, that companies are not investing time and money also in compact phones. Even 1 model per year with a good price (not 400+eur) will be nice.

Add the SE 2020 to the list and it looks like people are still buying smaller phones. Android makers should take a note and offer something else than clones of the same 6.5 inch phablet.

The 12 Mini would be a hit if the price was lower. They charge €829 for the base model 64GB that is a joke!! Because people who want a small and powerful phone have the iPhone SE at €499. They should've priced the 12 Mini @ €649 that would've been a fair price for a "small" iPhone.
Either they lower that prices in the iPhone 13 Mini or better end the Mini once and for all and just keep the iPhone SE and iPhone 13...

Its because in general no one wants a mini phone, they say they want a mini phone but ends up buying the regular iphone. People are leaning more to the "value for money" factor of the regular 12 than the "compact" factor of 12 mini that almost everyone here seems to want.

Too many phones these days are ... moreYeah the closest thing to that is an iPhone SE 2020 but I don't know if you want an iPhone and the battery is relatively poor. The Pixel 4a has OLED. The only other smaller phone I can think of is the Galaxy A20e but that's still bigger, and not high end like the ZUK Z2.
Closest I found though the phone finder is the Xperia XZ2 Compact. It has a taller 5 inch screen, so less screen area. It is quite a bit smaller in both width and length. It has a plastic back though. If it wasn't for the IPS display, I would have thought of a Pixel.

And the fact is competing directly with the iphone SE 2020, which is half the price. Majority of people who wanted compact iphones bought that one. And it has a worse battery life than the iphone 12 mini.
The only direct competitor for iphone SE 2020 from Android side is the Pixel 4a, which is better in my opinion, especially for people who want Android system.
Sadly, these are the only two decent compact phones on the market nowadays. I mean taking in consideration the price too.

If Xiaomi or Realme will make a 200-300eur compact phone, with good specs and features, it will be appreciated by many people.
But probably they don't want to do it. Or maybe people usually buying from these companies are looking for heavy stuff (gaming, movies, etc.) at lower prices and are not interested in compact dimensions. Who knows?

The line-up is crowded, especially with older models still sold as cheaper options; on the entry level, there's the SE, the XR, the 11 and the 12 mini : the price and feature sets are close.

Problem is in the price and not how good battery is. Never mind that average iphone user probably dont even know there phone specs. they just know it's the new model

The problem is battery capacity. Apple is obsessed with thickness or lack of it. Under 3000mAh is just ridiculous, that's why it isn't selling.

... moreI still see a lot of people want small phones. But that does not mean that these a lot of people want the most expensive phone out there.
For example you see a lot of small cars on the road that are either toyota, kia or hyundai while you dont see a lot of these Audi A1 on the road. You dont see these A1 a lot cause they are like 2 times the price of these Kia, Hyundai and Toyota while you pay 2 times less but still get 2 times more then you get with the A1
In the same time 2020 SE sells well and it's not much larger then the 12 mini is. It's sells well cause it cost like 2 times less then the 12 mini. And then there is the other reason.
Iphone 12 ... 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4 mm ... 800 Euro
Iphone 12 mini ... 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4 mm ... 730 Euro
Iphone SE 2020 ... 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm ... 380 Euro
So you think that 12 mini is 2 times better in every way over 2020 SE ? The size isnt that much different and it's still a small phone so why would you pay the 730 Euro for the 12 mini ? Especially when just 12 cost only 70 Euro more and is pretty compact too for the 6.1 inch screen
