TheLastOracle, 12 Mar 2021New camera resolutions and sizes are helping smartphone cam... more1 inch doesn't mean anything if the optics are very bad quality (equals very low maximum aperture). You could even put easily APSC sensor on a phone if you don't put any optics at all lol or to be more realistic, use those type of new generation of micro lense optics. But those micro lense optics are not yet available for industrial purposes.
In consequence, I suppose Huawei will lower the maximum aperture, but I don't think image quality will suffer because in bright light, their sensor will be night and day compared to the P40, but in low light they will just use the same algorithms that helped them to have a good image quality in low light of the P40.

New camera resolutions and sizes are helping smartphone cameras start improving quality, specifically the level of detail being captured. In almost all other parameters, smartphone cameras are pretty good.
For a 1inch sensor, the body of the camera is pretty flat. But, then, a 1inch sensor isn't much larger than the ISOCELL GN2, which is a 1/1.12-inch sensor. Also, it would be interesting to compare the quality and detail levels from both.

Anonymous, 12 Mar 2021I'm fine with it. The camera module is not significant... moreIndeed one 1" 14 mm camera would be better than 1/1.3" main camera and trashy ultrawide. As even half of 1" sensor for 28 mm crop is still 1/1.5".

Well, until now I thought that some phones camera's design looks like gas stoves (thank you, Apple). Now I am happy to see that we are evolving to induction plates.

That's hideous omg nobody asked for an electric stovetop as a camera bump, seriously WHO asked for this design trend??

I'm fine with it. The camera module is not significantly bigger than most modules these days, just instead of the trash macro/depth sensors it has just two, but actually useful cameras.
Kudos to Huawei for not pushing the trash sensors for camera count!
