Sony Xperia Pro has the largest vapor cooling chamber in a phone yet

15 March 2021
JerrryRigEverything has taken apart his fair share of gaming smartphones - none had a vapor chamber as large as this one.

And me from my Xperia™ 10 II.
Just love how it gets heads turning every time I take it out of my pocket.
😉😁

AnonD-731363, 15 Mar 2021Maybe it have biggest Vapor chamber in phone but is also a ... moreYou're totally delusional saying this should cost $500 when the cost of both the chipset + 5G mmWave + the screen itself in Xperia Pro already reached more than $300+ (the screen is around $120, the complete package of the chipset is $200+), then mini-HDMI port, vapor chamber + graphite + copper, IPxx certifications, special software, and other bills of materials & engineering economic costs for Pro are already exceeding $500.

Not to mention, separate camera monitor (maxed at 1080p OLED), encoder and modem costs are exceeding more than $3000+, and the mirrorless camera can cost anywhere from $3000 to $10000+ and broadcasters/professionals have very-high enormous salaries, from $29000 to $55000 annually, so Xperia Pro for professional is dirt-cheap at $2500 (sure, not us as a commoner like us around here), and the target market Sony going for is already obviously super-niche. You're acting Sony owes you debt all these times...

And where are the people who bashed Sony for using 4K display for the Xperia Z5 Premium? Where are you now?

I guess this is what people say against Sony:
      1080p - "It's 2017 already and they're still stuck at 1080p wth?"
2K - "Sony, that's overkill! Look at LG flagship battery lives! Go back to 1080p!"
4K - "Useless. Our eyes can't even see a difference between 1080p and 4K on smartphone screens."

I wish there will be one day that people will finally be satisfied by Sony. Pfffttt...

Mediatek sux, 16 Mar 2021How would it hurt anyones ego if you make such baseless cla... moreNow that many phones have the option to lower the resolution in software, you can have the best of both worlds - 720p for performance and battery life when you need it and a sharp screen the rest of the time."

This isn't right, as far as what the following review has tested using an S7 Edge with Nougat:

"We also tested if selecting a lower display resolution (a new feature introduced by Android 7 Nougat) would have a positive impact on the battery life. We compared the battery performance using the native 1440p setting as well as the lowest available setting of 720p.

The short answer is - the change in resolution didn’t affect any aspect of the battery life - not in our testing routine. The minor differences we recorded were in the minutes, and are well within the margin of error of the tests. Perhaps an alternative usage pattern might lead to some meaningful advantages of going low-res, but our experience doesn't point in that direction. One such potential scenario is gaming, but then again you already had the option to limit resolution within Game launcher."

Mediatek sux, 16 Mar 2021How would it hurt anyones ego if you make such baseless cla... moreMy bad, I didn't realise 6.5" smartphones were tiny. Phones are literally used just 5" from your face, "you can't notice is unless it's 1 inch from your face" lol. It's not about being a life changing difference, it's probably between 10-15% in terms of noticeable difference, yet that is significant enough. The only reason other smartphone manufacturers haven't gone 4K is the loss in brightness, they want higher brightness levels- which is a fair point. Though you can't say 4K is not noticeable. The funny thing is you say you notice the difference in refresh rate- there are people that claim there is no noticeable difference between 30hz and 120hz as according to them the human eye can't see it. Same argument, though you have used 120Hz device yourself. Have you used any of the Xperia devices, have you ever compared the display to a QHD device- I will suggest going in store if available in your region and comparing it. It's not a baseless claim- the irony here is you would be in the same position against someone downplaying 120Hz refresh rate because they have not used it.

Let me give another example- when you record 4K video on any device and play it back on a QHD screen you are downsampling the video. So 4K video recorded and played back on the same device will look crisper on a native 4K device than on a QHD device as-well. Which is why video on Sony smartphones look better on the device than other smartphones, because on other devices details are lost. Again not a day and night difference but still is a difference.

My point with Rog 5, was that 18GB Ram is overkill- is what youtubers have been saying.Though for some that 18GB is quite useful, you could have a few high graphic games running simultaneously. Though we are headed to cloud processing, the same way you countered that with 'not everyone has great internet'. Not everyone has 4K+ TV's, so this loops back into people using their own smartphones to play back the 4K/ 8K video recorded.

But at this point, I don't think this is going anywhere. I just put forward my perspective, you have your own- I'd just recommend trying the device in person before saying its useless based on speculation. I've used the Xperia 1 in person, which is why I made the point. Plus it's more color accurate than a saturated Samsung device and is calibrated well for Netflix.

Why? And it doesnt even have an oc'd 888. Sure, when unlimited high speed internet becomes cheap it can be a thing. Most people dont have that. Most people dont have a useless 4k phone either. Stop being a keyboard warrior and do your research first.

And? Its useless on the tiny phonescreen.

No, i didnt deliberately ignore it, you just cant see the difference unless the phone is only one inch from your face. Why would you stand so near an 8k tv though? You dont want to see the entire picture or what? I have only used 120hz displays and i sure see the difference in refresh rates, unlike resolution.

Sure, but vr is the only thing that even makes a difference between 2k and 4k on the small display.

I think you should get the Rog 5 gaming phone with 18GB ram and overclocked 888 if you want to game. Most users don't need that, plus with stuff like xcloud and stadia the processing of the phone is becoming irrelevant to gaming. That's the direction we are headed in. Stop being a keyboard warrior and do your research first. Most users don't play the latest graphic games, they consume content, use social media, take photos and videos and browse the internet/ YouTube.

By the way, YouTube also supports 4k playback for better fidelity on smartphone displays.

Mediatek sux, 16 Mar 2021Its good to know that you are a superhuman with microscopic... moreI think that hurt your ego, the human eye has over 500MP resolution. Bringing a 6.5" display with 4K has meaning and you just have to be a regular human to notice the difference. To contextualise it for easier understanding, the S7 had 575ppi with a 5" display being QHD- the S21 Ultra is QHD+ but only has 515ppi which means it lost detail by being bigger display. The Xperia with 4k resolution has 643ppi. Also you seem to have deliberately ignored my point that smartphones are so close to your face.
You can see the pixels in an 8K TV if you stand near it. Don't underestimate the human eye, like people who said we can only see '30fps' and now we have 300hz monitors. Now if VR was tied in would be great, but 4k on VR is still pixelated- we need 8K/16K for more believable vr.

I really didnt ask for your opinions on the other stuff, but anyway, faster soc always helps for the latest games, 8gb+ ram is really good for multitasking, emulators, 4k and 8k recording can be watched on huge tvs, etc. They all have good uses cases unlike 4k on such a tiny display. Even you forgot vr, looks like its so niche no one even considers it, and its pretty much the only use for 4k on a tiny display.

But hey, its good for you since you have superhuman vision.

Anonymous, 16 Mar 2021How is it so huge and thick and only has a 4000mah battery? From my understanding, Sony just recently in 2020 upgraded their battery capacity and other aspects that they're quite behind previously (like headphone jack in 1/5 Series, wireless charging, dual-front firing stereo speakers, Pro camera system & processing, etc.) all over their current offerings of the lineup after in 2019 had to do a lot of fixing and bringing back the design of the Xperia Z era with a modern touch and major features that are well-loved in Z era, and camera processing, which hinders the battery capacity upgrade back in 2019. This is because 2018 wasn't a stellar year for Sony Mobile, sales-wise and non-sales-wise (design, etc.) And 2019 was the year of transition from a fully-independent Mobile division to their Alpha camera division supervision.
                              .
1 Series from 3330 to 4000 (Pro in 4000 as well), 5 Series from 3140 to 4000, 10 Series from 2870 to 3600, and L Series from 3300 to 3580 (all in mAh unit). Upgrade battery capacities from 2019 to 2020 Xperias are around 8-27%. The Xperia Mark III/L5 will certainly have another bigger battery capacity, we just don't know how big will be. We need to wait for the announcement.
