Alpha8900, 23 Mar 2021The failure of the mobile division is LG's doing. They... moreI can't really understand what you are blabbering about. Overpriced smartphones with underwhelming specs? Possibly for their midrange and upper midrange phone (not that I would comment further since I don't own one), but I can definitely say no to their flagship phones. Take the case of the V60 - without the DualScreen case, it cost $799. By contrast, the cheapest Samsung Galaxy S20 is a whopping $200 more expensive, and it doesn't even have a 3.5mm audio jack or Quad DAC or even an optional detachable second screen case in the first place. Even when buying the V60 with the DualScreen case bundled together, it still cost cheaper than any Samsung flagship phones.
As for the major update, 5 years to release a major update? That's a good laugh. Just very recently, LG is seeding the Android 11 update for the V60 and the Velvet 5G. Heck, even the previous V series phone has received two major OS updates just like any other flagship phones.

The failure of the mobile division is LG's doing. They keep releasing overpriced smartphones with underwhelming specs and only their flagships recieve major software update which is very slow. It takes them 5 years to release a major update. It is a shame they've refused to learn from their mistake. RIP LG mobile.

Kangal, 23 Mar 2021Phone Company Victors: Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi Group, and B... morePantech? They where never a huge brand! Sharp? It is mostly for Japan! Toshiba? The same! Japanese brands usually kept the best for them, and this was a mistake. If Sharp would have done the same as Sony, Sharp could be in top 5!

Phone Company Victors:
Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi Group, and BBK Electronics (OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Realme).
Phone Company Deaths/Obscurity:
Nokia, Palm, Blackberry, Microsoft, HTC, Motorola, Sharp, Acer, Toshiba, Pantech, Alcatel, ZTE, TCL, Lenovo, ASUS, Meizu, Sony, LG...maybe Huawei/Honor too.
...the big transition started in 2005 and took root in 2010. Since then there has been very little in-terms of growth or variety. When comparing 2005 to year 2020, we're looking at two dominant ecosystems (Android and iOS) compared to the four ecosystems of the time (Symbian, RIM, Palm, Windows Mobile). Also, there is basically FOUR phone manufacturers that are currently dominating the market share, compared to about TEN different phone manufacturers of the day.

As a newcomer to the LG world, I definitely would hope that LG would now think of selling their phones globally to much more market. I first came across LG with the V50 and its DualScreen case back in 2019, and it was love at first sight for me. I love that phone so much that I ended up buying one despite being a refurbished unit.
For me, LG phones, especially the flagship V series, can definitely give other smartphone brands a run for their money considering all the features that LG has thrown in at a much cheaper price. The only problem is that it's so hard to officially buy one. In my case with the V50, I have to import one from the USA. That's not a good sign for me. More than that, LG's Q, K, and W series phone are all exclusive to a certain country and telco. That definitely wouldn't reap any profit at all.

impinas, 23 Mar 2021So true! If they build a properly proper phone, I am quite ... moreIs it certain people? Can we track hirings and firings with design and downturn. LG mobile is a great opportunity, with the right people. They HAD wide ranging distribution penetration, allowing a company to buy and upgrade. But where are they now in distribution?

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2021So basically you are rooting for less competition and choic... moreHow can u say the best when they are literally dying.
They don't know how to adopt the market. their overpriced phone will never be successful.
That's why chinese company will always steal the market. They know what consumer needs and wants!
The market is not all about branding. The big factor is PRICING!

Sad that it happens... If they used a more comfortable flashing tool that'd save their bum from such a decision
I mean. Android 10's LG optimus UI is really decent. but there are still the weird quirks...
So long LG... I hope you'll find success in other places~

As an LG v30 owner, it pains me to see them in this position, but I can't say I'm surprised. When Samsung and OnePlus were innovating, steadily iterating and building better versions of their previous flagship handsets, LG was hunting unicorns on the hill with the dual screen acrssory, or trying to find use cases for the LG wing, which flopped, just like the dual screen accessory endeavor. To make matters worse, the v50 and v60 were not even sold internationally, but only in US and only via carriers. How could LG make good sales, when you can't even find their smartphone
