HarmonyOS will officially launch in April, the Huawei Mate X2 will be the first to get it

26 March 2021
A final beta version of Huawei's Android replacement OS will be rolled out next week.

Based on info I've gathered from chinese forums: Huawei's spokesperson Wang Chenglu stated that HarmonyOS is indeed based on AOSP codes, and the current goal is to replace all google-contributed codes by October this year. Huawei's plan is to push out an OS that's compatible with Android apps ASAP (thus largely using pre-existing open source codes) then gradually rework all of them. Rome wasn't built in one day. No need to bash on a huge project in its infant stage.

Huawei pulled a big scam with the whole "operating system" moniker lol.
It's basically a skinned Android and yet they NEVER told the public, until the actual devs got their hands on it and exposed Huawei for the liars they are.

I don't know what phone that is but the oval shaped camera bump is so so beautiful. Would love to see something similar on OnePlus devices.

Livius, 26 Mar 2021The only way it's going to be successful is if it will... moreYes, apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, One Drive, Gmail, Amazon, Ebay, banking apps, enterprise apps and work related apps will determine if it succeeds outside China. If the apps don't work there will be no takers.

"Enough time to get finishing touch", wait until it plagued by bugs, not to mention, no Google too.

so pessimistic it will survive outside china.
Almost all online things here in my place are so dependent to google product, even online driver needs google maps.

Except if hongmengOS are allowed to install them :v

The only way it's going to be successful is if it will have a way for apps that depend on GMS to run without any problemes. If this happens, then I think it's going to be the next big thing. I was expecting something different in the UI but it seems that it's 100% the same.
