Weekly poll results: the fans rebel against OnePlus' switch to the mainstream

04 April 2021
OnePlus seems to have transformed into a mainstream brand with broad appeal, but the old fans are not happy with this direction.

Exactly right. Where is the OnePlus 5? With 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. And the best processor of the day and great price. Where is the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. With 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Where is the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of memory. From Series 8 onwards, OnePlus has not been able to find its place.

Normal. For years, One Plus has deviated from what it offered. It has been more concerned about the image than giving customers what they asked for. The screens are of terrible quality, for example the expensive One Plus 8 Pro with black crush issues. They are more concerned about relying on a great Hasselblad hyper that is simply an app and not lenses, than using more quality in their components. Also to continue using curved screens when more and more people want flat, or not so giant phones. It's normal that people punish them. Zoom, no curved screen, 6,4 inchs size, stereo speakes. It´s so difficult to build? Not, Redmi note 10 have it, ok, no zoom, but can be build in this size. Stop doing marketing One Plus, and return to be a legend.

And how will you proof that all these votes were from OP fans???
I voted for positive green line😃

I'm one of the earliest Indian fans of Mi... but not anymore.
Their phones used to be lightweight, have removable google & system apps, have good audio quality, and overall durability was among the best out there.
Today, they're just bloat. Huge size & weight, huge 20GB+ storage in ROM, huge everything.

But I understand that we, the old fans are just there for brand building, we're not respected anymore when the company goes big.
            Same is for Oneplus.

I'm done with OnePlus, coming from an OnePlus 7 Pro owner. OP 7 Pro is my first and last OP phone.

I know you guys need more content for the site but most people said no because they wouldn't want to let their current phone go. If you create a 'will you buy it?' poll for every launch , most answers will be no.

Now if you word the question differently like 'will you consider this phone if hypothetically thanos turned your current phone into dust' ,the answer would be yes or maybe.

No sane person would pick oneplus over a Galaxy when they’re both at the same price lol. They deserve this for being greedy

OnePlus‘ switch to the mainstream began with the OnePlus 3T which was barely different to its predecessor but much more expensive, and was fulfilled with the OnePlus 5 which was again much more expensive and copied the back design of the latest iPhone, adding a second camera which was basically the same as the primary, just to have this look like the iPhone.

And that’s also when they began having „fans“, which are normal people who think they got a much better deal than with a different brand, which in reality, they didn‘t. 100€ cheaper for a worse camera, if it‘s just the chipset you care about, then today you can buy the Poco X3 Pro. Rest In Peace 1+

Barry Egan, 04 Apr 2021oneplus is doomed Maybe not but I believe OnePlus won't getthe profit they hoped for this time around. Perhaps, they alway can use "COVID excuse" - it can be applied everywhere nowadays.

If I'm going to pay for a brand premium I'm at least going to go for the brand with a robust used market and no threat of being dragged into a geopolitical scrap over China.

Which is why I type this on a Galaxy A70 I acquired just before my country's nationalist government secured a large and widely expected majority, and why its likeliest replacement at this point is an A52 or S20 FE.

Could I get more for my money with a Chinese brand? In SoC terms at least, certainly. Do I trust those phones not to be bricked in the 2-3 years I'd use one as my daily driver? Right now, no.
