LOL they discovered it just now? When they deleted the 3.5mm jack poll and then removed the jack, any sensible person would have considered Oneplus a dead brand for them.

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2021Yes. Wealthy enough to don't care of price performance... moreOf course I care, which is why I couldn't justify spending £200 more (and that is the discounted price on Amazon, the MRSP makes it £320 more) on an S21 Ultra. The OnePlus 9 Pro was obviously the more rounded and better value for money device. Convert into your local currency if you don't come from the UK. What about the phone makes it flawed? Sure it's worse in some aspects but in my opinion, it didn't justify the price increase of getting an S21 Ultra, with an Exynos 2100 no less.

IMO all these companies should dissolve their sub brands and have just one single brand (Oppo Vivo Oneplus Reno Realme should combine and it should be just Oppo similarly Mi, Redmi, Poco should comig as just Mi).

They can combine the strengths of their individual brands (Oxygen OS etc) and still compete with each other. Too many brands is muddying the waters too much.

wongwatt, 04 Apr 2021It's not just the fans commenting here, the simple fac... moreIt was much easier last year. OP8 Pro, compared even to S20 Ultra, had plenty of advantages to offer:
        -better design
        -smaller, better weight balance
-a QHD AND 120 Hz screen
-better battery life and quicker wireless charging
        -stable autofocus performance
ALL that for 400-500 euros less, it was a bargain!
What does OP 9Pro bring to the table and S21U doesn't?
-superior ultrawide (although not so much after seeing numerous camera comparisons)
        -faster charging
        -charger included
        -lighter body
All that for 200 euros less. I don't even wanna go the route on how many advantages S21U offers next to OP9Pro, that'd be embarrassing.
They jumped the shark and they have to acknowledge if they want to surive past 2023.

All Chinese shining stars of yesterday have lost their shine and mojo. Oneplus was once a dream phone for geeks and an affordable one at that. Now trying to be a Applr or Samsung, Oppo have killed the brand. The 9 pro looks just like another Oppo Reno phone. Same is the case with Mi. In 2013 2014 they would launch just one phone a year like Apple and it would be much anticipated and eagerly sought. Now with 2 dozen launches a year no one cares. Same with Poco.

If these brands had just stuck to what they wete good at (great features and specs at eye watering prices) they would have done just great. At Samsung Apple price points these brands just do not have the brand power to pull Apple Samsung consumers and in the process have alienated their old custome base.

It's not just the fans commenting here, the simple fact is that OnePlus doesn't have the right devices to compete at the prices they're charging. The average consumer seeing a direct cost comparison between Samsung and OnePlus are going to choose the S21. The OnePlus 9 series had to be demonstrably better than the S21 and it simply isn't.

              Rebel : verb | re·bel | \ ri-ˈbel \
Definition : to act in or show opposition or disobedience

I don't think it's the right word, it's like you're stating that Fans don't have other choices, but who would go for Oneplus 9 Pro, where you can get an S21 for $470 Less !!!!

The Vanilla S21 even have better cameras, better build and design and much better software support.

Oneplus is acting too big for its shoes, at this point they're just following Oppo in everything even pricing.

ae86, 04 Apr 2021Funny how the execs at BBK right now thinks that OnePlus is... moreBBK think all their main brands are high-end, that's why they have those sub-brands.
Unfortunately not one of them has the all-around specifications to legitimately replace Huawei because they're obsessed with making tiny differentiators between them.
I can see them losing the battle to replace Huawei to Xiaomi simply because their prices are better.

limecheesecake, 04 Apr 2021Wow, you said "You are wealthy" to someone who go... moreYes. Wealthy enough to don't care of price performance ratio and consider other superior option and buy a flawed flagship at flagship price.

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2021None of these haters would have actually bought one. I have... moreUh...yea....of course people that disliked what the 9 series became won't get it. What kind of thought process lead to that conclusion...? Lol.

The thing is, OnePlus should have asked itself: "can I convince a typical IPhone or Galaxy user to switch to OnePlus being about $200 cheaper?" The simple answer is that OnePlus (especially in the US) is not big enough STILL to do that. On top of that, as this article correctly explained, OnePlus had a solid fanbase. But it's like they decided to not care about them anymore. Keeping the curved screens, getting rid of the headphone jack, not putting good-enough batteries, etc. The 'barely-any-different-from-your-typical-flagship' is what they're aiming for and it ain't working.

Also a ton of those pre-orders are going to be scalpers reselling the phones at S21 Ultra prices. Let's not take that into total consideration.

Very few people don't need more lenses that raise the price of the device

9Pro would've been a great buy if they added these features:
                          -5x periscope zoom
                          -4k selfie videos
                          -bigger Hasselband involvement (hardware Wise)
-just for the sake of fullfiling that stupid 4 camera trend, add a 4th macro Cam from Find X3
If they had it, it's be easier to swallow that price tag and justify the transition from 7 or 8 Pro.

Oneplus grew too greedy thinking it is the same as Samsung, yet it is clearly not in terms of Hardware quality for the price, cameras and software support it loses all to Samsung.
Why would anyone pay for a Oneplus which only has 2 years official software support and only 2 major updates compares with Samsung 3 Major android upgrade and 4 years support! NO matter how smooth Oxygen OS it is not worth the money anymore No more Oneplus for me, R.I.P Oneplus!

Nobody should be surprised by this situation software support does not keep up, and the price is at the level of Apple and Samsung but we get nothing extra in return

Nah, its just fans, or should i say geeks. Such reaction is pretty normal. The whole market do not consists of only geeks, geeks are just little interlayer in very big part of "normal users". So in future 1+ will gain much more profit from that "normal" users instead of little interlayer

Of course. Why buying some chinese crap, when for the same price I can get Samsung "S series" phone? Which, in all aspects, is far better.
