    LG problem was price.

They wanted to play in the top class but their phones were inferior in every way compared to Samsung/Apple.

Instead of adjusting their starting prices, they just kept introducing gimmicks that would be cut a year later.

Now that they saw they cannot fool anyone to buy their overpriced junk anymore they decided to pack their toys and go home instead of adjusting to a more value oriented approach.

      Rip LG phones.

They where the best when it comes to audio input due to DAC support

Only innovation left in smartphones are the phones that can pack in most hardware and features on a lower price. The one's that cant do it will fall out just like LG did now. LG sold it's brand same like does Nokia and Sony. They are high priced phones that dont exactly give you anything for the price they ask for. For 400 euro phones from brand name phones you get same things you get from phones that cost 150-200 euro but just dont have the long history of known brand names. So basically all live from old fat and sell there brand name products with premium price for the people who dont care about the hardware but only know the brand names and have been long customers for these brands.

It had good ultrawide, excelent mics, good audio output and that's about all the pros go.
Software was pretty poor, Qi charging was not even fully implemented, DAC had a bunch of issues in implementation etc.
My mom uses it now :D

Their phones were innovative but lack of marketing research and deplorable software updates which made them look uncaring about security and feature updates. Their cameras had so much potential but software again the issue.

They came up with great ideas but their marketing team didn't understand western culture whatsoever. That's the main issue, marketing research.

Since the inception of Xperia, availability was an issue in most places. They've never been afraid of being unique. They innovative in their own way instead of following every trend. It's true that they were doing bad until Xperia 1, compared to their glorious past, but they're on the right track now. I'll take those little bezels over any cutout any day. But that's just me. Speaking of HRR, I believe Xperia 1iii will have those options. Let's see. 😊

LG is out and HTC hasn't really been part of the mobile industry for the last two years. Sony could be next. Motorola and BlackBerry are owned by Chinese companies.

It's become Apple vs Samsung vs Huawei vs BBK vs Xiaomi. You can pretty much ignore the rest including Asus and Nokia.

yes I'm sure they will provide updates now they shut down operations....

It was only a matter of time... they did something cool, and then dropped it with their next phone... they lacked consistency which lead them to the stage they r at now... bye LG, you did good for a while...

And another star faded... What you see now is what will be after half a decade, in like 2026 or so. Samsung, Apple and Huawei, the biggest corporate trio.
I still remember those times when I was 12 and saw the all new LG G3, a massive phone, with massive display, first 1440p screen, with one of the best SoC of all time...
Probably LG hit the peak with LG v10, and then it started to go down...
Had I known this, I wouldn't have got the s8, I would've got the g6, despite having SD821 "only". But guess time will never tell what happens next. Goodbye LG.

Kingslayer, 05 Apr 2021Smartphones are kinda DEAD to me already. Not in terms of f... moreThere is only so far to be fair that one can innovate on a mobile phone when you think of it's dimensions. I think the same. If I think what is the feature I want in a phone that is not already there. If you have a device that is 6.5-7.00 inches in height and 8-10mm thick and then if you said you can do anything you want to it but it must connect to the internet, send messages and make telephone calls, there is only so far you can go with innovating. They've completely emptied the tank and I don't blame them. I think that there's no real scope for innovation anymore. Not because they're not clever people. The design guys are but there's only so much one can do. There's been rotating phones, flipping phones, folding phones, double sided screens and there's nothing really left now. That's why we're getting generic imitation daily really.
