Dineshwaran, 15 Apr 2021Worthless comment Well, good luck buying a phone without any essential features in the features if you think the anti-consumer policy is right, such as not having any port but the USB Port, or barebones in the box but only papers, phones, and USB cable.

Dometalican, 15 Apr 2021Then...sell the headphones and profit?I don't need to pay extra for a phone Just so that, I get headphones that I don't want.
And then having to sell those just to shave off a few dollars, I'd rather prefer the phone at lower price than go around this circus just to justify a phone which is overpriced in the first place.

AnonD-836132, 15 Apr 2021Sony next to die after LG. Nothing to justify that absurd p... moreWell, prepare to say bye-bye to those essential features those companies have been fighting for years against the flow and later on, complained why there are no companies build a phone with these such essential features. Considering USB Port is highly the next one on the chopping block on long-lost of killed essential features, I wouldn't be surprised if this trend exponentially being followed in such a short period LOL.

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2021Sony did a 360-degree turn with the headphone jack lolOnce, but at least listen to the community and fans to bring back the 3.5mm headphone jack (+ true front-firing stereo speakers) in Xperia 1 II last year after 2 years of absence. And those other OEMs, even some of them they used to committed to keeping them around for a long time? I considered them "tanked" or removed from my consideration listbook in keeping those small yet useful features.

Let's do a little math and economics to assume why Sony priced their phones very high from this instance, as shown in the title:
                      .
Instance: A Company "T" decided to make a smartphone, with a known fixed cost segment of the company's production process (using Lean Operations) itself = $750.000. Then decided to make two different smartphones, says Phone1 & Phone2 with a different selling price per unit (one at $1.350, one at $750) at the same variable cost, at 700 USD, to know the profit margin of each phone. What's the BEP from each selling price? Let's do the math using the Break-Even Point formula to determine it:

BEP = Fixed Cost / Selling Price - Variable Cost
                      BEP Phone1 ($1.300) = 750.000 / ($1.350 - $700) = 750.000 / 650 = 1.153 units
                      BEP Phone2 ($750) = 750.000 / ($750 - $700) = 750.000 / 50 = 15.000 units

And if the company "T" actually sells Phone 1 at 3.000 units and Phone 2 at 3.000 units as well and calculate the gap, Phone1 BEP has a situation where the rest of 1.847 quantity units can consider as profits, meaning $650/unit x 1.847 units/year = $1.200.550/year. Whilst the Phone2 BEP has a situation where it has a deficit of 12.000 quantity units, meaning $50/unit x -12.000 units/year = -$600.000/year

$1.200.550 - (-$600.000) = $1.800.550 difference. Imagine Sony-level production that cost billions, not just millions in this instance.

So, from the instance above, though Break-Even Point isn't all determination, in this case, BEP could be one of the factors of shifting paradigm and strategy why Sony rather choose a higher price and lower quantity and moved to a niche market that targets their "people of such this interests [professionals & enthusiasts]" (BEP Phone1 case). It's even faster to reach Break-Even Point and could lead to profit much faster, at least theoretically. They're not gonna sells a lot I admit, but it's better these ways. Sony before Xperia 1 2019 released was more in the BEP Phone2 case, which's riskier for niche products like 1 III & 5 III. BEP Phone2 case is suitable for BBK, Xiaomi, and Samsung, whose phones are mass-produced. Sure, there are other factors such as Economic Quantity Production, Economic Calculus, Engineering Economics in Forecasting, Physics & Material Sciences, etc, but it's reasonable for this one.

Apple is even above overpriced yes, but corporate and buissnesses are main customers there, not real people that much as its too expensive, and not for what they actually offer, but for the corporate grandure and appearance. Vast mayority of buissnesses and goverment secondary workplace phones around the world are Iphones. Thats whats Apple is all about, more of a status symbolism than real value for money.

OnePlus 8 Pro too same but they were 8GB/256GB variant. It seems like Chinese makers are charging 1000$ or euros just for namesake since both Samsung and Apple are charging over 1300$. However it is important to notice that all these launches were without any deals. Except Sony. Sony is the only brand which launched Xperia 1 II with headphones for all of its devices for at least 2-3 months following launch date.

Most likely the price will be $1100-$1150 for X1III and $950-$1000 for X5III (US prices tend to be similar as euro price tag usually). Considering they are giving headphones worth $200+ it's not too bad. If the reviews are positive this is priced competitively (especially if they addressed the camera auto quality to appeal to wider audience).
