You simply can't pull in enough information with a tiny smartphone sensor. Sony need to realise these are phones and offer a default point and shoot mode that actually works, then they just might get themselves more sales.
Of course they would then need to fix the bugs...

Still using my Xperia XZ1 after 3 years and hoping it will last until the new Xperia become available. Loved my XZ1 though so as long as it keeps going I will wait until the price comes down.

Don't make me laugh! Terrible default app + flaky Pro apps does not make a great camera experience.

Rkm, 19 Apr 2021What should I search for your channel? There is video from my test Xperia 1 II (day and night) and 5II and there's link to google drive (for full res) in description in every video. Some shots from 5II (and 1II) at night have amazing good details (almost zero noise, halos and all that weird stuff). 98% shots was made on automode, photo pro from hand. I work with professional cameras (sell them) and Im freak about low-noise - thats why I sometimes test Alpha 7SII and III (king of low noise). My favorite camera on earth.

So no Sony can never be like LG mobile. Also there is no more individual division for Sony mobiles. It was merged into SONY before Xperia 1 II. So yeah keep on dreaming Sony all together cease to exist for your satisfaction.

But what you said is true too, 20fps with eye tracking and individual ae/af require a lot of raw computational power.

Just because they don't have a lot of people buying their phones, doesn't mean they can't make any profit. They've set themselves apart for a certain audience which is fine, they just need to improve certain areas and they will slowly climb back.
Also, stop the cap, 99% of the world not buying Sony phones doesn't mean sht.
If you think that 99% of people on this planet decided not to have apple phones for no good reason, there must be something is very wrong with you mate ;)

I think is super "computational photography", but I'm not smartest guy on earth. Some shots from photo pro on Xperia 1II are similar in terms of quality do DSLR photos. When you shot at 20fps then sensor read full sensor in extreme fast read-out and you have super sharp details.

Computational photography is one area the Sonys used to be behind, but those who buy these phones would probably be able to take great photos without overly assisted computational stuff. They may actually prefer computational photography to not get in the way.
