A compact flagship from Asus is coming.

Nothing New, 16 Apr 2021870 would have been better option for device this small as ... moreHeck, I don't even mind ASUS using the latest SD 700 series chipset (SD 780G) for the Mini and even the vanilla variant. Last year's vanilla Zenfone 7 left me clueless as I see no point in buying it when the Zenfone 7 Pro has a faster chipset and better camera hardware only for an extra €100. If ASUS put €499 as the starting price for the Zenfone 8, that will be great.

Not gonna blindly preorder this.. waiting for S21 vs Zenfone 8 Mini battery test first.. 5.9" the same size of my Mi 9 SE 147x70mm, but with 20:9 ratio the Zenfone 8 Mini will be around 149x68mm

Mini phones are now 5.9 inch .. lol somebody stop the planet

notafanboy, 16 Apr 2021Exactly, only one phone. Clearly not enough if you ask me. ... moreNokia 808 is THE answer. :-) Probably my favourite phone ever. Best camera. Only downside, maps are from 2015.

YUKI93, 16 Apr 20215.9" isn't exactly that mini. If the screen is 20... moreSeeing how most Pro/Ultra flagships are 6.7 or 6.8" now, I think 5.9-6.2" phones are mini enough.

So only one variant with flip? Looks like Asus wants to ditch the flip camera, and go back to basics.

YUKI93, 16 Apr 20215.9" isn't exactly that mini. If the screen is 20... moreMy understanding about Mini is: It doesn't need to be small size like 5.3"-5.5". This 5.9" is small (Mini) version of other 2 larger models.

870 would have been better option for device this small as i can't see them squeezing cooling system that's great enough to tune down the sky high temperatures of sd888 not even big smartphones like s21 ultra or mi11 , 9 pro were able to do that , add to that they would be able to sell it at lower price with better battery life

                  This is a powerhouse

SpiritWolf, 16 Apr 20215 III? Yeah, it's 6,1 but aspect ratio makes it narrow... moreExactly, only one phone. Clearly not enough if you ask me. Manufacturers need to provide consumers with more options in terms of smartphone sizes. Nobody wants "castrated" variants with worse specs. I want REAL smaller flagships. Smaller battery capacity is acceptable, but a worse camera is absolutely not!

YUKI93, 16 Apr 20215.9" isn't exactly that mini. If the screen is 20... moreWhile I agree with you for the most part, if you go even smaller-12 mini or maybe even S10e/4a territory, you'd need to compromise on battery or other features compared to regular flagships.
Xperia 5 III has the best feature parity with it's bigger sibling (it's gonna ace the battery tests I hope seeing how the 5 II did)
Even Pixel 5, P40, S21 are good compact phones, but they sacrifice in some key areas compared to their +/Pro+/Ultra siblings.
I don't know why would anyone want to go even smaller (like 12 mini size)? Then they can't expect the best, imo.

it's probably the size of Pixel 5.

                            Expect similar size of S21.

My point is, this is probably as close to "Mini"/compact, as we'll get these days.

'Mini' and not a single word about dimensions? I must re-read the article, surely i missed it.

PS Did it. Screen diagonal doesn't tell much. And only information i got opening link in text is, that one of them is codenamed VODKA.

Finally some more compact phones, good they saw the potential (probably from Xperia 5 II reception). Hope they price it well though, like the Zenfone 6(Z)🤞🏻
