Exyvia, 20 Apr 2021Basically your comment is screaming that you don't kno... moreI'm fairly certain that Sony's engineers also know that smaller sensors will give you neither a wider(you meant to say shallower, btw) depth of field nor signal to noise ratio. Speed wouldn't have been a huge issue on a larger sensor either since stacked DRAM would increase the readout speed significantly.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2021There is nothing wrong. Just different approach. All ... moreIf the sensor has dual native ISO and also supports dual conversion gain HDR (e.g. Isocell GN2, OV48C), then it can be used in pretty much all situations regardless of how fast the object is moving. It's a very effective way to extend the dynamic range without introducing any stacking/alignment artifacts (although most phones can already deal with them just fine with sophisticated algorithms).

So, in translation, autofocus and object tracking capability at 5x zoom.
Heres hoping Arena tests that a bit with some actual human/animal in movement scenario, not just some casual street corner zoom in. ;)

But it does not work as default.... more"It works when the BACKLIT icon shows up on screen as one of the scene recognition"
Yeah that's exactly what it means by auto HDR.

So why the heck xperia engineer boasting about their manual smartphone camera mode? I say it's a marketing gimmick

Literally every smartphone out there is using that awful overprocessing, with extreme HDR. You may like it or not. But I don't think it is right to tell that a more natural approach is wrong. Truth is, you don't get those absurdly blue skies, and zero noise pictures, out from a Real Camera.
I like what Sony is doing, there are just too many companies aiming to get the same kind of users. They can't compete in that field anymore. And, also I don't get why you bother to complain about that. If you don't like, there at least a dozen of Chinese Brands, along Samsung and Apple for you to pick.

Well sony alpha is mostly used by people familiar with lots of camera setting, with manual costumization. Meanwhile smartphone user mostly use auto mode, relying on computational photography. It's no benefit on doing manual on phone, because it lacks of computational software which makes smartphone photography great
