27 April 2021
It seems not all Zenfone 8 models will continue the flip camera tradition of years past.

salarx, 28 Apr 2021This ^ People here be suggesting a phone that costs thrice... moreThat's why I rather suggest the Poco F2 Pro.
Except for a Telephoto it has basically everything, except if you want to be picky the wireless charging and the SD card slot, or if you are like me, the lack of Ultrasonic FPS.
And it is one of the cheapest flagship level smartphone even if it is a SDD865 and the 888 is now available (the 865, in fact I would say even the 845 still pack more than enough power for what most people will do with it anyway, we are just sadly missing on new features like BT 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E).
Imagine if rather than a stupid rebranding of Xiaomi, Poco who pretend to be independent had made a proper F2 Pro follow-up being an improved version with nothing removed, but a true Telephoto rather than the useless Depth sensor!!!
It would have sold like crazy!!!

AnonD-909757, 28 Apr 2021People not knowing what they talk about : "What are y... moreI have to add: if you consider phone is like people...
You should know that : people changed, situation changed. Overtime. Something's we can't deny it.
    So smartphones are changing too.
I think this era is where smartphones is at it best and maxed out. We hardly need anything new on it.
So these days, instead of adding, they (smartphones makers) they Removed something.
Example: Bezels, headphone jack, sd card slot, and Even CHARGER.
This we can't escape because it likely we forced to follow what they offer. We just have to be smarter to choose our phone and not waste money on a 1000$ phone that will break to 2 or 3 parts when bending.
BUT, if someday they REMOVED the phone instead, i join you to complain.
I'm afraid in the future phone just like imaginary things in our head and not have physical "body".
Glad now our phone is still visible and not made of a thin air. Something we can hold when gaming or just bore.
We have 99 problem but don't let smartphones be one of them.
    Just be happy.

      Hanif Fikri, 28 Apr 2021Stop suggesting 1200$ Xperia phone guys xD...This ^
People here be suggesting a phone that costs thrice as much, and expecting some extra features.
You have to pay for the features. Zenfone Flip will cost more than $700 this time. You guys can buy it, Asus will give you that option.
But for those who want an affordable flagship, say bye bye to flipcam. You can't really expect a phone to be compact, have a flipcam, large battery, headphone jack, wireless charging, IP rating, all at the same time, and keep the price $500. Even if Asus puts all those features and price crosses $1000, none of you gonna but that. Atleast Asus is giving you an option to choose from, go compact, or go flipcam.

[deleted post]I have answered your comment but apparently it got removed so I can't say much. You can just tell all of smartphone makers that have strong power to revolutioniszing phones like apple and samsung for example. Instead of getting furios with me.
One thinh you must know: PHONE is NOT HUMAN. They don't absolute need diversity and personallity. If you want that on your phone.
"All that bottled up anger, all that pain...

wbpwns, 28 Apr 2021Told you guys only the zenfone 8 flip would retain the flip... moreThe phone would sacrifice a lot to get a flip camera.. at that size.

I'm intrigued at the very least!

AnonD-909757, 28 Apr 2021People not knowing what they talk about : "What are y... moreStop Complaining that's enough of whining.
How about tell it to smartphones makers see if they wanna make your dreams come true.
It's useless to tell all of your smartphone problems to me because I'm not smartphone makers.

I like DIVERSITY too in real life, because people in the whole world just have different personalities, genders, budget, life choices etc.
But smartphones is NOT human. What the f**k you talking about. all of that anger,... what are you?

Looking good is important just like human.
There is also protection like screen protector and case.
So I think you just not satisfied and all of that opinion and diversity in mobile phones is just MAKE NO SENSE.
            Honestly I JUST DON'T CARE.

              A shame.

I was really expecting a flagship device, that fits in one hand (talking about the Mini.. if you could even call a 5.9'' screen a miniature device..) and can keep privacy as a priority with no selfie camera pointed at my face at all times.. was planning to replace my Samsung S10e with this. But, i guess Asus prefers to go along with the ugly punch-hole design trend that does not want to go away, for some reason.

oh well, they won't have my money.

Stop suggesting 1200$ Xperia phone guys xD...

thick bezel and no flip up camera, seriously ASUS ?
Unless price is really cheap, this phone will be flop.

Davidariyan, 28 Apr 20212017 sony xperia phone will solve your problem. Except for ... morePeople not knowing what they talk about :
"What are you whining about??? 2:1 or 18:9 in a phone will make the phone needlessly wider and that's not comfortable in one hands."

                    Reality :
*many 18:9 smartphones existing and not having any "too wide" issue as they are actually slimmer than 16:9*

                    Comparison with others :
                    https://www.kimovil.com/fr/comparer/meizu-15-plus-64gb-global,meizu-16,sony-xperia-1-iii,xiaomi-poco-f2-pro
Why it is the best as it offer a middleground :
                    https://neiloseman.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/aspectratios_inc_2-1.gif
                    https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2018/03/apple-hig-2x1.jpg

Yeah, sure, I have to pay for a more expensive display with a hole, not use a part of it, have fewer sensors than what started to appear with 3D face recognition, have no privacy advantages, all that to get a bezel that could have simple been build into the phone to begin with and that have nothing to do with pop up camera, SURE, you must be a genius.

And still have tons of accidental touch because you think YOUR way is THE way, and you haven't considered that if so many people have issue with touch rejection it is maybe because not everyone holds his/her phone the same way, it also is more expensive, hard/expensive to find protection for the display and body, is generally more exposed, cause sunglare that can be LETHAL in car, and serve absolutely no purposes except apparently "looking good".

You can also accept that other tastes than yours in the universe and that, like EVERY DAMN FRICKING MARKETS IN THIS PLANET, the Smartphone market could dip into this thing called DIVERSITY, even fricking Rockets and Airplanes which are physically limited by functional design have almost infinitely more diversity than smartphones, which is probably THE thing with the biggest potential for diversity.
Even graphic cards that in the end are just a PCB with a cooling solution on it have more diversity in their design alone despite having absolutely NO USES except looking good, but no, having different designs in a thing where it changes the user experience shouldn't happen because you don't feel like it, so we have to deal with wonky/false solutions because you decided so.

Did you even consider that maybe there are people that like the Galaxy Note 10 design?
No, how could you, you don't like it, so why would anyone else like it...

Why is it that everytime someone says they would like something, there is always someone who HAS to do this, and then act as if, themselves who literally tell you "yeah, I don't care what you want, apply to MY taste" is totally normal, but you asking for something is a crime against mankind?
This is tiring, I don't want to "disable" the notch/hole, I want a fricking pop up, I want FLAT, NORMAL display, I want a PHONE not a ruler.

I still remember those old memes when people still had a brain and laughed at phones becoming taller and taller :
                    https://i.pinimg.com/originals/47/b7/7d/47b77ddc6584b19b79538a027afe47db.jpg

And for when people know that having the same design over and over again was laughable at best :

But bruh... What are you whining about??? 2:1 or 18:9 in a phone will make the phone needlessly wider and that's not comfortable in one hands. The 20:9 or 23.5:1 is the maximum and the best of phone display. Since the dimensions will make the phone more Comfortable to hold. Phone makers just need to really trim bezels more especially the chin. This way even 21:9 will look and feel like mini phone IF the screen is calculated at at least 6,5 or 6,4 inch AND have punch hole. Imagine have phone like that with boxy design like samsung galaxy note 10. If you look in display setting you CAN hide the Punch hole with added black bars. Wanna more extreme? In android 11 there is a waterfall display that hide the right & left side of the display making it look more Square like Xperia phones in 2017.
                          Is your problem solved?

If Asus can add decent camera technology such periscope zoom, 760 fps slow motion, time lapse and decent overal camera, with their teased audiophile grade technology, i think they have a winner with Asus zenphone 8 mini, zenphone 8 flip and zenphone 8 pro.

Risobari, 27 Apr 2021Xperia 5 III 6.1 inches 21:9 no hole no notch OLED 120 Hz... moresony 1iii or 5 iii seems to be decent all rounder and suffice in most areas, however, even with 3.5mm jack using the standard dac built in within snapdragon 888, it's sound quality is not that great ( like all phones), on the other hand, its been teased that asus zenphone 8 mini, zenphone 8 flip and zenphone 8 pro will use ESS audiophile grade dac for excellent sound quality (like ROG 5) which kills every phone except the old asian only Onkyo DP-CMX1, it's a shame as Sony has their audiophile walkman department which makes world class digital audio players such as NW-ZX507 and NW-WM1A, they should share the technology to create the ultimate walkman phone which will be similar in audio quality to NW-A105 at least.

FatShady, 27 Apr 2021just because its better than the iphones notch doesn't... moreOh chill out dude. There is an "option" to HIDE the notch in popular android skin like MIUI (Xiaomi), one ui (samsung) and maybe more, sadly BBK group phones doesn't have this in the display setting.
This way you could get BEZEL again and if somehow your phone have big chin. The bezel will be similar and you can have grip for gaming. Problem solved.
No need for pop up camera since its not durable. And will never be. Trust me. When the gear inside is rust. You will have annoying problem. Hole punch is the ideal solution for selfie camera. No need to argue with that.

And the 2:1, or 20:10, or 9:18, or 16:8 or 18:9 or whatever how people like to call it, is a nice middle ground making the phone not too tall and a good balance between 16:9 and taller formats, and quite a few movies do use this format.
                                      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univisium
And it should be a standard as it make things relatively easy to convert as you simply multiply or divide by 2.

So in the end, we don't need a "perfect" smartphone, we need many different ones with real diversity and combinations of features and designs, because everybody have different tastes, yet everyone acts as if there was only one possible design, this obviously include phones with bezels in a 16:9 format too.
