Mobile low light photography is useless, it only looks good on small screen and that's about it. 90% of the phones can't even take the night time picture that captures the actual night time, they all add or amplify lighting that is not there, lift shadows, kill light sources highlights, etc. They all have either noise or oil painting effect. But that ill obsession for low light as benchmark for camera quality is still relevant I see. My favorite is when people take pictures in pitch black room and then go on tirade how good their camera is.

And that one was entery-level. And it is still totally fine with Android 10 (lineage). Now they are even going back to 720p and less batterylife

But iPhone would have been a better example in this case. A company don't need to sell a lot. A company need to make profits. You can sell 1000 phone with $10 margin and be less profitable than selling 100 phone with $100 margin. Also depending on you company, even selling 100 phones with $10 margin can be more profitable if your organisational cost are low.
Sell volume can't be compared from a company to another to know about health of a company. The only information it gives is the market share, but nothing else. Apple is one of the most profitable company, but when you look at their market share, it's far from thriving.
Number like market share, like numbers in spec sheet, if you ave no knowledge about what it means, you just fool yourself thinking bigger is better and you become the controllable perfect sheep for marketing, hoax, fake news, clickbait etc.

Sony should revise their prices, I know they're a premium brand but the competition in the smartphone market is fierce nowdays. Maybe the Apple phone is the only one people are willing to pay lots of cash just for the brand, but they've established themselves as some kind of fashion trend and prestige long ago

where i really save money is the upgrade cycle...
upgraded my z1 compact to xz2 compact... z5 premium to 1ii...
the compact and regular size has different purpose...
but i must admit, i also buy some "collections" so the "savings" part is not that much... but in the long run, my newer phones are not that abuses since all my other phones are still working (but cannot keep up with some of what i do)
for instance, i still have a working xperia miro that i used as a music player and sometimes a backup phone...
and as for that snapdragon 9xxx, i really dont chase numbers, as long as my phone still serves the purpose... apparently the "planned obsolescence" aka updates are here to stay..
bottom line, some phones still works after 8 years, but may not be as usefull as it should be... 2-4 years of upgrade cycle is possible though...

Numbers aren't the only thing to compare. Profits are also important. Sony is finally making profits after 4 years. So your argument is invalid and stupid.
Chinese smartphones have always been sold more in number since my school days. Only difference is, in those days they didn't forecast the numbers as marketing.

The reason for low sales in the past is timing of their product launch and lack of partnership with the carriers.
Unfortunately, it is the same Case. I hope they release it as soon as possible in Europe, otherwise I will have to unfortunately go with Exynos version of Galaxy S21 Ultra!

I really want to get this phone but ill wait for price to drop to atleast $900-$1k.
