At 148 mm this is no small phone. Will continue to hold on to my half broken phone in the hope of a true Android competitor to iPhone 12 mini. Otherwise I'll just have to buy a 2019 Samsung A40 or S10e, or worst switch to stupid iOS for 12 mini.

However the differences between 120hz and 90hz are hard to be visible to the eye and for the mini it would be actually even plausible to go for 90 as it saves battery. Flat screen sounds good

I would've preferred if ASUS made these changes on both phones:
- 3.5mm Headphone Jack, with FM Radio support
- IP68 protection, and some impact resistance (eg MIL-STD-810G)
- 120Hz SAMOLED screen, Flat Gorilla Glass only
- Include a good Ultra-Wide Camera for Selfies and Group photos
- Great quality/large Main Camera with OIS, and use this as x3 hybrid zoom
- Don't include a Telephoto Camera, they're useless unless they're x5-Optical Periscope
- Downgrade to a Snapdragon 870G-5G, this is actually flagship performance
- Only offer one option: 8GB RAM, 128GB, microSD slot... it really keeps costs low!
- Priced around 300-350 Euros, 300-350 Pounds, $350-$500 US, etc.
- Have the bootloader unlockable for community developers (GCam port anyone?)
And now the differences:
- Zenfone 8 with 7.9mm thinness, versus 9.1mm thickness on Zenfone 8 Pro
- Zenfone 8 with 69mm width, versus 76mm width on Zenfone 8 Pro
- Zenfone 8 with 149mm height, versus 161mm tall on Zenfone 8 Pro
- Zenfone 8 with 6.0 inch Screen, versus 6.6 inch Screen on Zenfone 8 Pro
- Zenfone 8 with 170g weight, versus 210g heavy on Zenfone 8 Pro
- Zenfone 8 with 4,100mAh battery, versus 5,400mAh battery on Zenfone 8 Pro
- Zenfone 8 with same 2x Rear Cameras, plus 10MP Selfie camera
- Zenfone 8 Pro with same 2x Rear Cameras, plus Motorized function
- Zenfone 8 = vanilla, medium sized, great value, cheaper, about $350 USD
- Zenfone 8 Pro = Flip, large sized, good value, dearer, about $450 USD

Everybody cool down , That 12MP is indeed ultrawide with autofocus & macro capabilities.
It will be a 12 MP, f/2.2, 113˚, 17mm (ultrawide), 1/2.55", 1.4µm, dual pixel PD Auto-Focus.

Turned out it's 6.67 AMOLED with 90 hz. So keep your fingers crossed. No way the pro model will have weaker specs compared to vanilla one.

YUKI93, 06 May 2021Interesting spec, but I'll wait for the official annou... moreI can't see anything interesting there, 8 Flip is just a 7 Pro with SD888 and 8 Mini is although compact phones are really uncommon, the spec left behind is generic. I would buy Meizu 18 over it any day.

Is it only me or does the bezel on this 'mini' look quite big? Bigger than Galaxy S10 from more than two years ago with nearly identical size.

Hopefully secondary camera in Zenfone Mini 8 will be ulrawide lens not macro. Please! Then it would be the best phone of decade :)
