chris1998, 19 May 2021Sooooo. I'm trying to figure out what was the point in... moreI wouldn't bet on the Samsung node being more efficient.
Also, wtf! It's the same damn soc save for a slightly lower clocked gpu.
If they want to target new markets they need to have meaningfully different, but couldn't, feature sets.
They could do a 2+4+2 comprised of 2xA78, 4xA75 ( pretty small "big" core and, a dead-end design for big cores but it's very efficient and substantially faster than A55 [something like 2.5x but at low clocks the difference in energy use for race to completion loads should put the A75 ahead of A55 when A55 is at its higher OPPs] — I would prefer to use A73 cores but those aren't dynamiq compat) and 2xA55 (these are still are great for background work of which Android has lots).
They could make an actual gaming soc by using a lower clocked Adreno 630 (and up) paired with fewer but fast cores.
They could make a camera focused board that is loaded with dsps and optimized for SLAM.

        No Qualcomm, No Android

Only flagship they are behind in

            Anonymous, 19 May 2021Do you know 860 is 855++? I didn't know that ( ironic ).

Anonymous, 19 May 2021Cheaper for the OEM. I doubt difference is more than $10-... moreI highly doubt it being cheaper than what Samsung is asking for its 5LPE
I even question the reasons QC has for this: it's no different from the 780, readapting the design for a different node is expensive, and they probably don't make much money from midrange for it to be appealing.

              Why?

Anonymous, 19 May 2021I thought the kyro naming scheme matched up with the a core... moreThey are now named based on their cluster. A7x core will be Kryo xxx "Gold" while A5x core will be Kryo xxx "Silver."
Now with the introduction of Cortex X1, the prime core will be Kryo xxx "Prime."

I doubt difference is more than $10-15 per unit.
This makes zero difference to costumers.

IpsDisplay, 19 May 2021These aren't gonna help you Qualcomm Qualcomm your ... moreMediatek is more common inside low ends.
Low ends sell more than midranges and flagships.
                        It is no surprise.
Those sub$200 often use mediatek to cut cost.

Snapdragon packs much more tech, obviously gonna cost more.
Even exynos offer more things than mediatek.

                          Another rebrand.

Another day, another SoC from Qualcomm....

Xoimi Poco X3 pro good phone and very good price

Why this soc when is almost the same like 780?! There's some reasons. First, producing soc in 6nm is cheaper, meaning cheaper finale price for customers. Second, company have many requests for 5nm and producing them need some time, while Qualcomm will lose money waiting Tsmc. This basically boost time for soc production. One Xiaomi can buy all 5nm chipsets. Third thing here us marketing. There will be phones with voth 780 and 778 and people will think they have more choices, but in reality it will be the same ohones with minir differences.

Really surprised how people think this is a bad chip when SD780G and this SD778G have a huge advantage vs the SD768/765.

                                  Best uppermidrange chip since SD660.

Baddroid, 19 May 2021870 seems to be the only good option nowadays.No. Sd 860, 865, 750, 778 and 780 are also great.

870 seems to be the only good option nowadays.

I thought the kyro naming scheme matched up with the a core that they were with? Did that used to be a thing?
Like if kyro 475 was the a76 core then the a55 core would have a different kyro number.
