Come on, permission to only setup an app, once the user OK's it, and only touching that apps storage and nothing else (using system functions for app maintenance, and only that). Rather than spyware central, peep all over your storage location and stuff you are doing. None of their business. People will land up loading malicious app store apps, which will host through their data and install even more malicious apps and secret code. Imagine Taliban installing what they like on phones and those owned by notary authority judges and political representatives, this is why you restrict everything under law, to stop the public being a target. But some of this vulnerability is built into the existing app system. By analysing the ad data, people fir recruitment or oppression can be located. It's a major cluster problem for the public, in need of laws to reduce it to safe income stream, by reducing what they can see, and greatly increasing anonymity of what ever data is collected, looping off common results below 100 people locally or 1%, per say, 10,000, and 1000 nationally or per 1 million. Now, all the identifiers can be anonymised. Plus you make breaking anonymity of this data illegal. Several non unique things about you can identify you, so applying the 100/1% and 1000 rule to these identity combination streams of identifying elements, can supply high anonymity. Only certain people should be allowed to do it, or access that information. Google does it wrong, they should give app producers a royalty on profit from app usage, and not allow them access to any of this data whatsoever. The affected apps would shrink many times in size from stripping out the spyware, which no longer helps. Smaller phones would then be able to install more apps without running out of memory. They could also select in app ad content for them through an API request. I've said to google in the past, that allowing everybody to collect data, merely devalues their data. There are now an extensive range of automatic functionality in automatic permissions, and permission categories grant way more permissions than required. Look it up, and extend the permissions information lists, and look those up, it's a lot. It's hidden. Your phones and games can run faster without this too.

Having other app stores do installations, rather than being gui front ends which pass the download and install request to a droid to do, is a Bad thing.

Anonymous, 20 May 2021Something bad gonna happen... I foreseen it though 🧘🏻‍♂️Do you label all third party apps as malware? Some malwares get past google's gatekeeping on the play store as well.

However, user must have the right to '"UNINSTALL" these third party app stores and not just "DISABLE" it; and users must have the right to do this on all pre-installed apps.

Anonymous, 20 May 2021already we can install third party stores & it works fi... moreFrom what I have understood, the new method will let the app store to work like play store, when you click install, it will do a silent install and it will also do auto updates the same way.

Fearghast, 20 May 2021No, but you will be able to install that joke of the Huawei... moreWell if you can freely integrate Google Play into Chinese phones as a 3rd party store that would help Huawei get over the Google situation. The App Gallery is fine by the way. I don't use it, but it's good for consumers to have choice.

dbjungle, 20 May 2021Is Huawei coming back???No, but you will be able to install that joke of the Huawei App Store directly via Google Play, you won't have to download APK via 3rd. party software.

Another year, another android. What has been changed this time around? The skin. As always great work Google, getting new version of Android is like getting anew DLC. Sure it is mostly useless and makes no fundamental changes, but we'd sure require it soon so that to make your older device (that inexplicably cant get this new "version") obsolete.

Google's versioning system is the greatest realization of planned obsolescence. Microsoft has many issues, but at least they know not to upgrade their OS every year. We get to keep the same OS for almost a decade and we name the minor add ons "upgrades" not "new versions". I guess that's monopolies for you, some companies will certainly milk that cow.

Excited for Android 7.5 (what google calls android 12), but it's still android 7 at heart.
