iPhones are the same thing with some small new features and improvements (and shrinking the battery from 3110 mah to a small 2815 mah)
google pixel went from flagship chipsets to midrange chipsets
i feel like these brands only think about the money instead of better phones and just downgrading and only the ignorants will buy it
i used both an iPhone and a galaxy and my experience was bad with apple slowing down my phone and that handicapped iOS is boring and samsung is the same thing and one UI is worse with the bugs and with the non-removable bloatware
im getting the LG v60 and im happy with it and i dont worry about the updates slowing down the phone (since LG is not making no more phones) and plus i like LG´s UX

They claim both are spin-off, but in reality are not.
Mi11U is 3-4x better than phones like Redmi K series and Poco F series.

Regarding price, I'd say Google needs to charge appropriately for a flagship device, in order to deliver a best in class device.
If you want to spend less, pick up the "a" variant. If that's too much, grab a BREW flip phone (assuming carriers are still allowing them onto the network).

They have some nice features on paper that need to be there to justify the high price. But the rest are not that different compared to a good mid-range phone, for example. Only the cameras you can say that are an improvement compared to mid-range phones.
But comparing something like the Poco F3 (which you can get even with 300-350EUR) and Mi11 Ultra (which is 1000-1200EUR), is not like the Xiaomi phone is 3-4 times better than the Poco phone.
Is just that flagship phones are creating the most hype, so people want those especially. And if somebody can afford one, why not? The problem comes when they can't afford it, but still buy it, to look good in their circle of friends or on social media.

Custom isp? So gcam ports are done.
Not really, they still have 5a which will be 4a 5g.
But maybe in later stages.

I said I didn't like the built quality and the price I paid for it. The plastic was the lowest plastic that any company can use. When I pressed in different parts of the back of the phone it sounded really bad. Even my budget Realme or Xiaomi phones that I had (also with plastic backs) had better built quality. And they costed me half the price.
But anyway, I bought the Pixel 4a mainly because I never had a Pixel phone before and I was curious to try one. I was not impressed. Of course, not saying is a bad phone in general, if you are pleased with it good for you.

Knowing Google it will be overpriced. Remains to see the reviews, because AndroidPolice fanatics will rate it regardless at a 10/10.

For me, I buy a flagship phone because I do a lot of console emulation gaming and photography alongside videography on the phone. Heck, I even use my phone as a desktop/laptop replacement. For someone who only does light gaming or mobile photography/videography, I'd just direct them to an SD 7xx upper midrange or even an SD 6xx midrange phone. No need for SD 8xx power if you only scroll through the social media feeds and watch videos all day. Even SD4xx entry-level smartphones can do that job well.
