What, 06 Jun 2021Windows phone was very good and still the best looking os e... moreI've tried windowsOS and I liked it but that had to start ground up with new phones and stuff but huawei has an advantage here because of their plan on updating 100 device series dating all the way back to Mate/P9. This alone gives them a lot of users instantly.

It's as promising as android because it IS android. Or a fork of it anyway.

Windows phone was very good and still the best looking os ever made. The problem was the lack of Google service.

It will be uphill battle for Harmony. Same as it was for Windows Phone. Both are late to party and Android us very established. Also it will largely depend on filling up app gap, because app support and amount of apps was one major issue for Windows phones. It wasn't bad OS, it just came too late and offer too little to make up for it. Also I do think whole privacy thing, regardless of evidence or which side you are on, won't help. I am sure it won't be flop overall, it had good chances in it's domestic Chinese market. But outside it will be though battle. Personally I definitely would love to see Android getting more competition than just iOS, it really needs it, but I am not sure if Harmony is it or not.

No chance. Not for one company. Its not Apple where you have a lot more. No apps = no people/customers. Somebody said its China brand strong locally but even there you have Apple and a lot of other companies using Android. So whats the point to use phones with HarmonyOS ?
For me its even more wired that LG quit when such a big player - Huawei lose USA/EU market.

Even US government doesn't have, or they have disclosed it long time ago. Just words. And btw. After that what happened in US last year, I don't think that US is somehow 'more free' country than China. Actually vice versa.

Windows Mobile was a very good and ahead of time operating system much better than android and iOS at the time. Microsoft's only failure was they were unable to hook in developers to make apps for Windows.
Developers won't make apps for any new platform unless they get some kind of motivation, be it market share money or ease of developing apps on the platform compared to the profit it can generate.

It's hard to make any comment about this. It depends on how many people willing to try out new things, especially for a mobile OS without Google Play Services, and also how Huawei marketed HarmonyOS to consumers and app developers.

In China, this will succeed. Since Huawei already has the TV, smart speaker, laptop, and tablet ecosystem, simple updates can iron out the bugs and get this ball rolling into smart homes.
In the west, I would say techies would love this but...so long as Huawei doesn't allow rooting, it's going to be difficult.

We gave Microsoft long time to prove Windows Phone's relevance so we should give Huawei a chance to do so. However, when compared with WP, Harmony OS even if it is a skin on to of Android has lots of apps, services and hardware which the former Windows Phone did not have even after years of waiting.

It look promising for me and better than android and ios combined at this early stage...why i said better than both... Many people said its android +ios combined.. Cmon give it to Huawei for this wonderful OS with beautiful Name...hate it or love it... HarmonyOS is the Future

It was discovered earlier that HarmonyOS is a forked Android distro with SERIOUS customisations under the hood. It's forked from the AOSP project without the Google bit. So idk what's going to happen in the long run but it would have been better if Huawei could have developed a totally independent OS based on Linux and have it support x64 architecture as well, the adoption rate would have been incredible. Imagine a whole plug & play eco system, including all your existing devides and computers. To top that off, you could sideload Linux repos.

depends if all apps work with it. Windows was a beautiful OS but unusable due to so little options/development on the apps.
