Apple was the first to used the v8 with the A7 in 2013 with the iPhone 5S.
The first Snapdragon powered phone with arm v8 came in 2015 giving the A9 2 year leap in performance.

Yeah, this is for next year for sure. I wonder if it will be called the 890, 895, or 898. 9xx branding series should be coming soon.

Of course people will first have to wait for the plus version of the 888. It's actually that processor's successor.

if this is V9 why would they still use the 888 nomenclature? I doubt your info is correct. V9 top end series would be 889 or similar, not a +.

I made my comment just as the article was released and it was clearly titled 888+ specs leaked and whole article was talking about this being the 888+. Afterwards, GSMarena noticed the mistake, edited the article and changed the title. But, didn't have the decency to acknowledge their mistake... So, the earlier comments now look like they didn't read the article...

So the successor for 888 will have arm v9 with new architecture and fabricated on 4nm.
It will be better than the A14 Bionic and more closely to the upcoming A15.
