Mediatek sux, 08 Jun 2021These permissions are part of aosp. You dont need google se... moreYou do realize that there are both OS AND individual apps that spy on the user?
There are COUNTLESS examples of apps caught spying on users without passing through Google.
There are also brand specific hardware level spying, both the phone manufacturer (software AND hardware for them) and the SoC manufacturers do it independently.
Then you have the backdoors that the Patriot Act force every US based company to have on their products.
Add to that your internet service provider.
All of them use totally different ways and Android authorizations only cover so much.
There are other things, and many aren't general but rather targeted, like a hacker doing a Man In The Middle attack for example.
Here is a guy who know what he talk about and explain quite few things :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LPDsPvCbCo
Here is a hacker talking about all the indirect ways hardware can be used to do stuff no one consider :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9PqVcgT1kQ
You can do stuff like using a camera to listen to sound, Wi-Fi as a radar, accelerometers to register which individual keys of a keyboard are pressed, etc.
Anyway, the front facing camera, that is constantly aimed at the user, is one of the biggest privacy threat, and if one day one of the big nation turn into a dictatorship, people will discover it the hard way.

Would be nice to see the return of headphone jack and SD card slot.
I see no reason to spend all that much on Samsung unless they offer more than what others do.
You can only optimize android so much when google itself is lazy to do so..
(Google still hasn't managed to do what Apple did with the M1. They ported an x86 OS to ARM and made it faster and more efficient. Android still hasn't been able to efficiently utilize all the resources.)

A lot of people also want pocket friendly phones with max 1080p resolution and big phat batteries. But all Asia and all YouTube watchers have made sure that it will never happen. We are actually back at the very first "mobile phone". Horrible battery, that needs power(bank) constantly. Huge phones that can't fit in any pockets. Do you remember Motorola brick? Yeah, we are there again. Just more flat phones today, but same size and worse battery life. Even tiktok is the reason we still get a "selfie" camera.

Or you don't use a seatbelt because you already have airbags.
Many things aren't interchangeable, one privacy intrusion door is still an additional weak point that can be used in various malicious ways, even without internet.

The Flip up can't do face unlock as it is too slow for example, there are many reasons why it isn't the best option, NOTHING is THE best option.
I can make and find 10 moving parts designs that are better than the Flip up and use the main camera too.

I only said it isn't the only solution to have no notches, no holes, and to use the main camera for the front too.
Which IMO isn't even necessary, people don't realize that the front camera is a relic of the past that keep our phones from evolving to some much better solutions.

AnonD-940827, 08 Jun 2021Asus flip is using the main camera, as front camera. No wei... moreYou can also have a pop up where rather than having a camera inside it, it is a prism which serve as a 90° periscope, so you also use the main camera, it can have two height setting making it Wide or Ultra-Wide.
I thought about it a while ago, and I included it on my meta lens periscope design :
https://imgur.com/gallery/tIXYDCW
Oppo patented something similar, using a pop up that allow the main camera to see both in front and in the back of the phone :
https://www.bgr.in/news/oppo-smartphone-with-moving-mirrors-patent-filed-938041/
The issue, regardless, isn't from the mechanism, pop up, pop up prisms, flip up, slider, etc, they are all fine...
The issue is from people complaining about "moving parts", "wear", "durability", "waterproof", "water", "dust", "fragile", "drop" and all that.

AnonD-940827, 07 Jun 2021Asus flip. That's the way to go. I'd prefer no front camera at all, but rather wireless camera like this Oppo patent:
https://www.hebergementwebs.com/smartphones/and-oppo-imagined-a-smartphone-with-a-detachable-camera
It gives the advantage to upgrade the camera as you want, do angles that aren't normally possible, and come in super handy to see spots that are difficult to see.
And with that, rather than being forced to accept a 2Mp army of useless sensor, you can choose with the phone that already match your tastes, the camera setup you want.
Many would like to save money and buy a middle-range (as they are now crazy powerful) but still have high end camera.
It is a win, win, win situation :
No hole/notches/bezels + privacy and no flip up/pop up/second display that many complain about + ability to choose the camera you want.
There are already multiple concepts/plans/patent for this :
https://www.concept-phones.com/cool-concepts/this-phone-has-a-detachable-camera-that-still-works-independently-like-a-gopro/
If any solution should be unique, it probably should be this one.
But again, not a single solution is better than the rest, we need diversity, not a single design to replace them all.

For example Instagram openly admits to have virtually unlimited access to your selfie camera (same goes for the microphone - they even admitted to hiring hundreds of people to listen to the recordings they had stored).
I understand it is idiotic to have Instagram even installed on your phone in a first place but who knows how many other apps spy on you via the selfie camera. Im glad Samsung decides to skip the under-display selfie cam. Personally speaking I will be covering the selfie camera on my next phone.

Waiting for A9 since 2018 version. It was one of the first quad back camera globally. Performance of the handset as a device with ageing SD660 is still stellar. A9X is the i9 of Intel in Samsung's A series.
New A9X can be a good choice for bringing under display camera in mass market.
