Oh, I can definitely tell that it's noisier than a regular 12MP sensor of the same size or at most only negligibly worse if I'm being *extremely* optimistic. When the sensor is this tiny you would probably want a larger individual pixels because extremely small pixel pitch will actually start interfering with light capturing by each cell (0.64µm is narrower than wavelengths of some of red lights). And no, this is not completely solvable by any amount of "research and technological progress".

Kurosawa, 10 Jun 2021With this pixel size all exposures will ve long. Especially... moreThat makes absolutely no sense.

Wereweeb, 10 Jun 2021LMAO at all the ignorant comments. Smaller pixels and small... moreThis is pure bullshit. Yes, smaller pixels and smaller sensors are results from advancement, but their primary attribute is low price, not image quality. Smaller pixels mean smaller active area, which leads to lower number of photons caprured. Simultaneously, integration capacitance is smaller, thus having larger dark current for example. Total result is poor signal to noise ratio and and really bad dynamic range. Binning the pixels together improves this, but the typical digital binning preserves readout noise. But even with analog binnig the combined pixels are not equivalent in performance to the larger pixel. So, quit bullshit.

Maybe companies could start using this instead of the millions of terrible 1/4" 8MP ultrawides.

LMAO at all the ignorant comments. Smaller pixels and smaller sensors are literally the result of research and technological progress. You literally don't even know how a sensor works, you simply can't judge how good this sensor is without empirical tests.

If you want larger pitch pixels, go back to 6MP main cameras.

If Samsung can make such a sensor without a Quad Bayer array, then the pixel size of 0.64 micrometer would be useful in order to achieve nearly periscope tele quality without a periscope. The tele lens of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 might be a good match.
