Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ to have 50MP main cam, proper telephoto lens

23 June 2021
In the S20 and S21 generations a 64 MP cam was used for high res shots, zooming and 8K video, but things could be very different next year.

Good riddance, it's about time for Nonacell (that failed to provide any image quality advantage over Tetracell until the end) to go.

Good move. It was ridiculous of Samsung to not offer proper zoom sensor on their flagship models.

My issue with main cameras above 12MP is that they are always out of focus around the edges of the subject being shot.

I thought they would use their new small 1/2.7in sensor for secondary cameras. It had almost all the features of their advanced sensors and 50mp wide, ultrawide and tele would have been cool for marketing.

The 108MP camera in s21, gives absolutely no meaning! It can only be used in ai mode, and not pro(manual) mode.

even p30 pro had 5x zoom in 2019 and they coming in 2022 with 3x zoom with most likely small sensors as well?what a joke samsung has become, so sad huawei got kicked out the game . ill keep my p40 pro and hopefully in 1-2 years huawei will figure out their problems .
samsung should offer at least 5x for s22+ and variable up to 10x for the ultra,

Samsung finally feeling the heat from Mi.
They know the HM'X' lineup can't compete with the GN series of sensors.

Who cares when they'll stuck more plastic on the back of the phone with S22 series. Next up, S23 Ultra comes with plastic back too unless you pick the absolute range topping model with most RAM and storage space.

If it has the same ISOCELL GN2 sensor as in the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, that would be a much more enticing prospect than the 108MP Nona Bayer sensor. If Samsung keeps the same 108MP Nona Bayer sensor for the S22 Ultra, I wouldn't even look at it.

Yes, so S22 and S22 Plus will use Samsung Gn1 sensor that Vivo X60 Pro plus used. Not the GN2, as no one wants a mountain sized camera bump like the Mi 11 Ultra did. And that's an significantly better sensor than the gimmicky marketing 108 Mp HM3, which produces bad lowlight photos and videos without any software tricks, take photos in auto mode, pro mode, or video mode, the results are horrible. While maybe the S22 Ultra will use th Gn2 on the Mi 11 Ultra? With samsung's software, it should deliver more consistent results than Xiaomi's one. I also Hope that the ultrawide lens gets an massive sensor upgrade since Ultrawides on Chinese phones are excellent in lowlight photos bciz of their large sensor, while Apple, Google and Samsung's ultrawide in lowlight are trash

Am I alone in thinking that if you remove the camera differences there is going to be little real difference in real terms from the s20 range for many users? I currently have a Note 10 Plus 5G and see little reason to upgrade to the S22 range at all and lets not forget there is no new Note this year either. The Fold and Flip don't interest me in the slightest. I consider them fragile overpriced toys at this point.

2 years too late. But better than nothing, I guess.
