It's more to do with their huge loyal userbase. With size of their userbase they will sell huge amount of iPhones every year because there's always a lot of people to upgrade to newer model and then add all the android switchers who been now very active, half of people who i knew bought iPhone 12 series phone came from android.

I believe the wider availability helps sell more iphones. Most of the android phone models sell different variants from region to region. iPhones have remained consistent in terms of software suite in all regions and a relatively good overall performance. Ofcourse there are drawbacks but I guess iPhones have made a name from themselves in the long run...

I for one have made a switch from Android to Apple this year. Actually i needed the Apple watch for its health tracking features. Now will forever be locked in Apple. I like the integration between apple hardware and software. I like the privacy features of iOS. I had top of the line android devices previously(Note 10+, S9+, OnePlus 6, S7 ..). Apple can still improve the cameras compared to say a S21 Ultra or Mi 11 Ultra. But overall i find the Iphone 12 to be a very good balanced device for my usage. i would not want to compare ios vs andorid . each to his/her own.

I love my 12 mini even if it's a sales flop. I don't care for iPhones bigger than the 6/7/8/SE2. Smaller phones being niche still won't stop me from buying mini sizes. Not that the 12 size is too large. It's not. I just don't like the weight and the regular 12 is lighter than the X/XS/11. I've played around with the 12 as my mom owns it and I just prefer the 12 mini size. It weighs the same as the iPhone 4 at 135g.

It's not even a Android vs iOS thing, it's more that they like to feel like they have a certain status.

The reason i bought iphone 12 pro max…I’m tired of android. I need a fresh os. Ios is the only alternative. I just might stay with android flagship if they just didn’t copy in removing festures like 3.5mm jack
