Apple's overscroll-bounce patent has been invalidated in the US

23 October, 2012
The decision comes from USPTO but may be appealed, so it isn't enforceable just yet.

I'm really going to lmfao if pinch to zoom, double tap zoom and slide to unlock features get invalidated also. Nonetheless, it's so refreshing to see USPTO is realizing and acting appropriately on what Apple likes to label as innovations are just prior arts/copycats. Well, Tim Cook, there goes one of your "value" in your products.

Pretty soon Aplle will get stripped off of all their patents Lance Armstrong style! I spell total freedom in the tech world! Now let's just sit here and wait for a future version of Android codenamed "Apple Pie".

[deleted post]Yeah what a poor iFan! thinking that apple invented everything? oh that's just crap! They just got the ideas from others and patented it themselves to be called "original". Well how could you know that Apple is "original"?? That's just dumb, think first before saying something dumb.

It doesn't matter if their patent filing was rejected. They'll just keep applying until they get a clerk that approves it, just like everything else.

Working for a British network carrier, I constantly have to put up with BS like this. HTC has been using this with HTC Sense for at least a year now, including in its latest phones; HTC One S, HTC One X, HTC One X+ and HTC One V, yet only Samsung is sued...

When iPhone first came out, my iPhone friends talked so much about iPhone can do WIFI. My Nokia N80 can do WIFI and WIFI calling through GIZMO (later bought by Google) 2 years before iPhone is released. I even showed them. Even today, I tell those people that they are living in dark ages with iPhone.

The manufacturers went and made their own flavour of the idea and called that their own. Now they have shared the ideas with apple for their new phones, and Apple has gone and patented those original, unchanged ideas that were freely shared previously, and just causing grief in the whole market by not putting the thought in to develop a new version for themselves.

This phrase says it all: "that is, it's nothing new and it's an apparent consequence of something that already exists" Patenting that is already existing = stealing.
