RejZoR, 02 Jul 2021I remember days when only Hyundai and Toyota had 5 years of... moresoftware support is still blatantly over-rated, and ofc comparing car "WARRANTY' to "s/w updates", how thoughtful & far fetched can it be.

I remember days when only Hyundai and Toyota had 5 years of warranty on their cars. And today almost everyone has 5 years of warranty. And just like with Hyundai and Toyota, if it wasn't for Apple almost religiously pushing 5 years of software support everyone in the Android side of things would still dismiss us all with just pathetic 2 years of updates at best. Yet here we are where best ones provide 3 years and extra 1 year of security only updates. Not quite there yet, but it's something. I just wish someone would be brave enough and go with 5 years. But given how Qualcomm isn't really interested in that with chipset drivers, only brand I expect to step up there at some point is Samsung since they have their own Exynos chipsets which they can support for as long as they want and don't depend on anyone else like the rest, which can put them in advantageous position others can't match unless Qualcomm steps up the support too. But it'll probably take few more years for that to happen anyway.

Easy to do. Their security updates come every 3 months, so they'll probably do it every 6 months.
