It would have been better to use something fully Linux comparable, then expand it to mobile and JavaScript, picking up the hardware and system drivers, using comparability layer with the android Linux core. If there is any advantage to using the normal Linux system structures over time, you can use versions more aligned with Linux, as they are developed for the mobile hardware. Commonality with desktop arm is the objective. You get a market so that the hardware infrastructure between formats of device, can be interchangeable. As we move to desktop arm, this ease of having one hardware code for multiple targets, will be desirable. Hardware manufacturers would prefer to have one driver then many. For users, this may mean better quality code.
But then again, they could have done something new and better, as we were hoping. I've been in the primitive OS sphere for over 35 years, is catching up and still shit. We have morons running OS development, using whatever stock of staff they are bringing in, not elite designers. There has been enough research to show what to do better over the decades. Yet we are still pigs wallowing in mud. Why didn't these people learn from Toas OS? That's the 1980's, it means they are lagging so much, a 1980's os has lessons to teach.

The real competitive behaviour is to have a download fee, including a limited amount of reloads. A price on the app, non context advertising, that only uses the nature of the app to universally push advertising, in a way, they don't know the user or device. For the seller and or distributor to not know the buyer, app use or click through on advertising. This means trust mechanisms, that says the click through is registered but more are not registered unless in the future etc, and the use is notified to stop soft clicks. So, the trust mechanism is the only one that knows you and anonymizes the data, the trust mechanism shows you for verification, and it and the receiver regulates the amount of times click through is registered for patents. This allows security alerts for software pretending to click. This makes such short greater impractical, and closes it down. Now, software makes money on sales, the distributor makes money on sales, and too many reloads. Everything else is minor.
I've had some success suggesting anonymizing by grouping minium amounts of people to them. Which is stuff I planned for a service. Hopefully, they can pick this up. Once everybody makes money this way, a lot of costs drop off, and profit margins increase. The compliance costs of this method bis a lot less.

Maybe it's also related to recent .aab(Android app bundle) announcement event which's going to replace the current .apk format(or make that format discontinued completely in future) support across devices(poor win 11 effort to keep it alive)...

Most people aren't even aware that there are other app stores for Android so that in itself could be a problem. However if you are aware, it's super easy to install a 3rd party store. I ran the Amazon one for a long time when they were always giving out free apps.

Now it's Google's turn to offer alternative appstores to their OS.
