Anonymous, 09 Jul 2021Let's say both come with android 12 out of box. And ... moreI'd disagree on that. Google doesn't make anything from devices. All their profit is data mining and apps/services. It's in their best interest for you to stick around on their software platform as long as possible and not potentially go with iPhone since that basically removes you from their sight. With 5 years of software updates they'd eliminate one pretty big reason people do go with iOS instead. But I have this weird suspicion it won't be 5 full years and that it'll actually be 3+2 (3 full OS versions and 2 extra years of security updates). We'll see.

If this phone's chipset contains Arm v9 based cores, than it would be a perfect flagship future-wise. It already appears to be best considering screen wise, camera wise, battery wise, feature wise, Android updates wise, developer support wise, custom ROM wise. I've no doubt that none of these would be sub-par compared to other flagships, but would be either equal to or better than others. Nobody in android provides 5 years of updates, and unlike others vendors of android, you'll get new Android on the launch day or within a week or two, not after 6 months or 12 months after Android major release in case of other flagships and normal Android phones

It has everything one could want and expect from a flagship.

AnonD-909757, 09 Jul 2021OF COURSE THEY DON'T DO THAT, exactly because of what ... moreThese are Google Pixel. People recognize its branding by its camera capabilities & stock Android. Not batteries. Not some exotic company that built for specific preference you need. Leave that to exotic new branded one with something else entirely.

I would have complains if its at 6.7", they provide 4000mah battery. But its a 5000mah at 8.9mm thk currently, which is perfectly balance between thkness and battery size for me, and someone else. Camera bump thk are fixed since its a bigger sensor.

And your assumption about some people and some company are rigid. People have diiferent minds, if its right for you, doesnt mean its right for others.

People do realize the design isn't official yet, right? None of us have seen real photos of the actual devices. I'm not a fan but it's something that will eventually grow on me.

As you get older, you really stop caring about design or customizing your home screen. You just want a phone that works. A phone is a tool. You're not searching for a wife.

Shui8, 09 Jul 2021'You don't find it comfortable, then don't b... moreOF COURSE THEY DON'T DO THAT, exactly because of what you are doing right now.
In EVERY FRICKING MARKETS there are products for ALL tastes, including niches, even cars have some non-luxurious and niche models produced in limited numbers despite the vastly more complex, longer and costlier process of making them compared to phones.
There are brands who ONLY make niche products and yet works really well.

ALL MARKETS, yet even something that MANY (not niche, not among tech enthusiasts only, across ALL types) desire, like smaller phones, is a rarity.
Why? Because, again, OEMs don't care at all about their customers, they just make THE SAME thing again and again as people have no other alternatives anyway.
Why? Because people like you make it NEAR IMPOSSIBLE for market analyst to do their jobs, and they certainly won't waste a fortune trying to guess what people want.

It isn't about taking an opinion, I've heard your opinion, yes, you don't want a thick phone, I know, I don't want a market where thin phones are not available neither, what you do is NOT giving your opinion, is fighting off something you don't want, and let's clarify that it isn't "don't want" as "it would be terrible if it happened" but simply "it isn't your type, and you can just ignore it".

Sure, everyone knows it is easy and cheap to make a company, mainly in this sector.
Or you can just shut it about it now that you've given your opinion rather than still insisting against it and take a nap and dreams that the whole world revolve around you.

I expect the same hater comments for whatever iPhone or Pixel come out even though other Android OEMs try to ruin Android on how Google tries to envision it. Rooting for their cheap Xiaomis or whatever Chinese brand.

Perhaps Google should start charging OEMs a ton of money for using their OS? Our privacy will improve as less ads. Is Google perfect? Hell no. No company is. But the hate iPhones and Pixels gets on this site is laughable. They're the two best smartphone line in the industry. Smooth experience. Not the overrated Galaxies.

Great to know Pixel will now get 5-year updates. Android is already perfected so even if you stay on Android 12, you should still be good if you're don't update to Android 17. And unlike iOS, many apps still work on old firmware or you can get an old apk to work on that firmware. I could still play Mario Kart Circuit on a Nexus 4 still on KitKat.

Seriously, open a company & build your own phone. Or you u can just take a nap & dreams about it.

It isn't a DISCUSSION, it is someone saying that there is something he, and many others would like on the market, and egocentric who can't accept that something not meant for them could even be considered and have to point out the "flaws" and "issues" even when they don't exist or are based on preferences.

For example, if the periscope camera has an f-number of 3.5 or worse, then a smaller pixel size than 1.0 micrometer would give you nearly no further advantage regarding the angular resolution due to diffraction. Though it could maybe still improve the video quality.

Anonymous, 09 Jul 2021Difference can be few dollars. Also, you multiply per all... moreIt is quite easy to find in spare parts website the main camera module of phones, like the OnePlus 6t with its 16Mp OIS + 20Mp sensor + lenses + housing and all that, for 10$ or less.
And we talk about parts that have been through multiple sellers first who all had to pay for shipping costs and getting profits.
And the 6t isn't the only example, of course, yet its sensor is more than good enough by itself, and even more for a third and fourth sensor.
So the OEMs and their mass orders probably could get them for a ridiculously small price per units, even adding 5$ to the phone cost (which is nothing for most customers), it would still get them margin on it alone vs 2Mp sensors.
There is a minimum cost because of the materials, employee time, electricity and all that, and toward the super low end markets, small cost differences mean huge quality/cost/feature differences because of this.

And google gives up to android 17.

Will phone still perform well with android 17?
                                        That is the issue.
Easy to find iOS users that complain their devices get weak after third/fourth update.

I am not cnvinced google is gonna give all those updates.
Apple still orders old models to be made. And make tons of money with them.
This is why they give so many updates.

Pixel 6 duo is gonna be over couple months before pixel 7 is announced.
Google is not gonna be making money selling them in 2023/2024/2025.
                                        Software support demands much money.
Hardware is just tiny fraction of google's revenue.
Another reason for not spending too much money on it.
