Google will stop updating Play Services for devices running Android Jelly Bean

09 July 2021
There will be a last update at the end of August and nothing after that. Jelly Bean (v4.1-4.3) accounts for less than 1% of Android devices today.

I have Android 5.1 32 bit 512MB ram device which is better than my, Android (7.1.1, 32 bit, 2GB ram), (8.0, 32bit, 2GB ram), (9.0, 64bit, 2GB ram) devices because the ram management is best on Android 5.1 among all my Android phones which gives me better experience than running a latest Android version

I had that issue and I was using phone with Lollipop (5.1) that I pulled from my drawer of many older things.

It is really old. So don't panic and buy a new phone. Or use your phone and don't worry.

What are people here even crying about? The last build of JB was in 2013. That's 8 years ago!

Did you expect Google to support it for how long, especially when less than 1% are on it?

Crying for the sake of it. I bet that if any of you were in Google's shoes, you'd do no different.

it's actually insane that you could still run most of the apps from Play Market on such an old version of Android, while when i used iPhone 5 i remember in 2018-19, there was no more iOS updates and i couldn't even install apps from App Store because my iPhone had iOS 10.3. And Apple fanboys saying that iOS is so good that it have 5 years of updates, but after it you can't even download apps if you buy it used and never had iCloud account with apps. Yeah most Android smartphones doesn't have more than 3 major OS updates but you can still download latest versions of apps even after 5 and more years.

KitKat and lollipop still work fine, i used a galaxy s3 as my main phone for a year back in 2018 to 2019 (broke) and my parent uses a kitkat Samsung tablet that still works fine for his media needs,

this isn't ios where people need to upgrade every year or two or risk missing out on features and app support
