Google will stop updating Play Services for devices running Android Jelly Bean

09 July 2021
There will be a last update at the end of August and nothing after that. Jelly Bean (v4.1-4.3) accounts for less than 1% of Android devices today.

[deleted post]So, another one who continues to advocate for throwing away perfectly working devices just because. Right.

And according to you people must have enough money for that as if buying gadgets makes them live better. Right?

Despite this not being full OS updates, it still showed that Google cared to support Android JB for 9 years. That's crazy!
Hopefully as time goes more updates will be done through Google Play Services, especially security updates. Then one will be able to use phones for long.

Encouraging app developers to drop support is just mean. Apps like Facebook Lite and Instagram Lite still work perfectly on old devices

Funny history, just found my old Xperia P with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, bought a new battery and turned it on, and surprisingly, still popular apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and even Spotify and Deezer works!
Still playing with it, bad news from Google for my Xperia P, but will have a good retirement

Most people around atlea... moreNo hate but my spare phone (Samsung Galaxy Mini GT-S5570) has Android Gingerbread 2.3.6 and my old tablet (Asus Transformer Prime TF201T) has Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 that I still use for video and other basic stuff. No custom roms for me, I have used a few but went back to the official ones and I just stripped down the bloat. My main personal phone (Samsung Galaxy S7 Exynos 32GB [The 64GB was sold out]) has Android Oreo 8.0 and my work phone (Motorola Moto G6 Play, got it for 99 euro on Black Friday, I didn't want to bring my S7 to work so I got it as it was cheap and with OK specs) has Android Pie 9.0.
Not everyone can buy new devices every 1-3 years, my 1st phone the one from early 2011, I had it as my main phone for almost 7 years before getting the S7 (new but was over a year old phone).
Now I'm waiting for the Note 22 Ultra (Hoping for an armv9 + AMD iGPU SoC), I prefer the squarish design over the more rounded ones, that why I want the Note line!

[deleted post]You don't need to be so salty about it. It's just an update.

I'm surprised some people are still running this version. Pretty sure almost every phone can be updated to at least Android 6 with some kind of mod.
