Apple patents periscope lens design for its iPhones with two prisms, LG and Corning working on liquid lenses

13 July 2021
A two prism design is unusual. A liquid lens might also find its way into a periscope and into an iPhone.

I can confirm all these frustrations. Always having to wait for next year to get some new thing, with no guarantee that you'll get that next year.

Apple marketing will call this 're-inventing the wheel'. Lol

On a more serious note, by the time Apple reaches 3x zoom, Samsung and many others would have reached 20x optical zoom. Metalens, liquid lenses and other technologies are the future of Imaging. Apple needs to focus its energies on better technologies, instead of more hype and marketing.
Also, its curious how nobody has truly created a CFA pattern circumventing the limitations caused by the Bayer Pattern (detail and light loss).

No wonder so many iPhone users have migrated to Android after getting frustrated 😤 for years having to b€g for features that existed on budget Android phones.

AnonD-1008637, 13 Jul 2021But you said LG no longer making smart phones ? 😕It's not. They can still make components for them. LG is pretty strong with displays and they probably make bunch of other things like battery cells, sensors and lenses even.

Another feature that is available 5 years late on iPhones. People already enjoy the 10x zoom with great image quality, not to forget how important it that reach is in videos.
100x is also great to read something that you cant with your naked eye

Cool! Now need some innovation in battery technology like SSB

Fixed focal length is not optical zoom.

2 prisms = sensor placed like regular cam with no prims could lead to a bigger sensor + prism, maybe that's why they choose this design

It is amazing that these companies are able to patent what amounts to "common military periscope design *but on a phone*".
The USPTO hasn't been fit for anything but US protectionism for many years.
