axelwoax, 30 Jul 2021well they are still making the most detailed photography re... moreI wouldn't bother to look to a review that is paid, no matter how detailed the analysis is.

Seems like so many Huawei boys really tend to defend their P50 Pro which is inferior in every way compared to the Mi 11 Ultra,

The Mi 11 Ultra with GCam is without any competition whatsoever. Despite these fanboys that are still on denial. "tHe p50 PrO's 3.5x oPTiCaL ZoOm bEaTs oUt tHe mI 11 uLtRa'S 5x zOoM" Stop lying to yourself and stop defending them.

Xiaomi's implementation of the 48MP periscope lens is still unmatchable, even Huawei can't even match it. Don't you even dare mentioning the iPhone 12 Pro Max which is literally 2 years late to this.

So if you want a mini-DSLR on your pocket, get the Mi 11 Ultra, then get the best GCam port out there.

Also, it seems like, before launch, Huawei just tends to give the test device to DxO, then it uses their unfinished software. Then they just pay them to have such scores.

                    It's pathetic.

One thing to keep in mind about this review is that Huawei apparently sent them Kirin-powered unit that will be sold in China instead of international variant with SD888. It would be interesting to see how different chipsets will affect the final image quality, and my guess is SD variant will perform considerably worse at least when it comes to still photos.

DD, 30 Jul 2021Huawei so good? Its already out of the top 5 best smartphon... moreIt's not due to quality or popularityof device. It's due to components supply reduction.

Anonymous, 30 Jul 2021For all of you camera enthusiasts that want to learn and be... moreThere is no subject in that photo. The said scene was chosen for the sake of pushing the cameras' auto HDR capabilities to the limit and seeing how they will perform in situations with very high contrast, and they didn't take those sample photos to enter for photography contests.

From what I have seen, Huawei, Xiaomi and Samsung phones seem to have two steps of HDR mode and activates the more aggressive one only when the regular HDR cannot cope with extreme dynamic range. Google's HDR+ strength can be adjusted by the dual exposure sliders. Xperia's HDR processing became more effective in Mk. III as well, and in some cases they look fairly similar to those I mentioned above in terms of tone mapping. One thing I can say for all of the brands above, however, is that they provide you some sort of means to disable HDR entirely if you really hate it so much.

Moreover, we don't even know how much contrast the actual scene had when those photos were taken - so you don't get to say how it was supposed to look like nor to be captured.

Second, DXO doesn't make money from reviews like a lot of... that you see on YouTube. They make money from working with a lot of companies in the imaging sector providing software and a lot of services that improve cameras capabilities.
Instead of bashing DXO, educate yourself!

Yeah because they are only showing us the aspects & the characteristics of cameras they are testing, and not trying to be a great photographer or impress people with the composition of the image. This kind of thoughtless criticisms really undermine your credibility, just saying.

Huawei delivers, as always. I might even ditch my S21 Ultra for a P50 Pro :-)

Hmmmm... Are people thinking DxO is trash because they didn't give the iPhone 12 series the lowest possible score?

But anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if the p50 pro cameras were some of the best on the market.

Clearly to show how much dynamic range it can achieve. There is no any subject intention, because those are CAPABILITIES test, not showing off skills of PHOTOGRAPHY. Its only about the gear. Its normal, even most of the professional camera website review including DPreview did it. (room with backlit from window)

Definitely to compare what our eyes sees. I am sure when I'm in that room, will see outside how it looks like. Not some other brand that simply blown the backlit area, or underexpose the foreground.
