12 August 2021

AnonD-994853, 13 Aug 2021Stupid idea. Video calls? And also emergency selfies? Camera-less phones existed for a long time and are used for sensitive, high security areas.

Here's the latest one.

But the only reasons I think they didnt do it is because they wanted to maintain differences between this and ultra and/or they kept that feature aside for next year's mi mix 5. They need something to differentiate between this years mix 4 and next year's mix 5.

xiaooooo, 12 Aug 2021My 9T pro dropped on normal floor recently, with a silicone... moreWhat does it have ANYTHING to do with what I said?

Are you really complaining that something YOU DROP doesn't work while the phone take a hit BAD ENOUGH TO BEND IT?

Did I ever say that pop up NEVER FAIL?
I simply say they don't break more than anything else, because, everything do break, MAINLY if you drop it.
How many phones did have they display shattered because they were dropped?

Now go complain to all the weight idiots that prevent phones to be made with more durable materials, which is why you are stuck with a phone with the soft metal that is Aluminum rather than something better like Steel or Titanium.
Or those slim phones obsessed who can't understand that thicker phones would actually not only allow for bigger battery, but also stronger frame.

So what are YOU on about?
Also, based on the number of anti-pop up and people who would try literally anything to try to prove me wrong, I am not even trusting you and your anonymous account to even own a Mi 9T Pro to begin with.

Acorns, 12 Aug 2021This Mix 4 is basically like the phone you are talking abou... moreThat's the issue, this is the last thing I want, because UDC has a huge privacy issue, it is biometric's worse nightmare as regardless how good the software compensate, biometric require quality pre-software/RAW to operate, and on top of that, it cost much more than you realize, they didn't put it full price yet, but once the real price will be added and the tech will be mainstream, everyone will regret it, mainly considering that there are much better alternatives, like Disappearing Cameras :

Which do everything the UDC do, but better.
Also, the issue is that exactly as almost all phones have punch holes or teardrop notches right now, this tech will become invasively mainstream and there won't be any other alternatives.

AnonD-909757, 12 Aug 2021I know, don't worry, it isn't a friendly fire ^^ ... moreThis Mix 4 is basically like the phone you are talking about. It is a full screen phone with the added bonus of a selfie camera too. I say bonus because while it may not yet be up to par with a clear punch hole or notch camera at least it's there if you want it. All tech gets better over time and these phones are among the first ones to be sold to the public. At least people know before they part with their money the selfie camera isn't going to be great. However if the ffc is not as important to folks as having a true full screen experience the option is there. No one has to buy this phone if they don't want there are plenty of other choices out there but not many that offer a true full screen experience yet. Anyhows peace guys ✌️

What I meant is that actually, there is a huge market to be made out of niches, but only if made properly, sadly the only examples there are, are too extreme, like the LG Wing which don't even fit any niche that existed or was demanded (at my knowledge), or the Red Hydrogen One who was expensive and didn't deliver.

But many other niches, including no front camera, would actually sell well, they could, for example simply make a fullscreen variant of a phone with punch hole, this mean it won't cost extra to produce.

The sad truth is that since so many people complained about tech they could have ignored, the OEMs are now not even interested in doing any answer to any demand as it would be too much of a waste of resources and time to make a survey in such hostile environment, so simply set how phones are regardless of demand, forcing everyone to have the same features they all make.
In such a market, making the exact same phone is obviously profitable, but if a company making good phones were to use a single phone model and make variations out of it (to lower costs) to answer multiple niche demands, sells would explode.

As you say, this is sad that they make so many phones for all of them being more or less the same with only tiny variations that usually are often the same...
OnePlus wasn't making much phones prior to the Nord, only the x and xT then since the 7 the Pro series as well.
But the 7(t) Pro was the turn around when they finally showed their true face...

AnonD-909757, 12 Aug 2021Making ALL or MOST phones without any front camera would in... moreNo, of course not. You should remember me (same age boi) as I agree with you and SUPER intrigued with your phone concept and Type-M (magnetic) ports. Just saying that none of these companies ever make the plunge because they want those sales.

However, with the insane amount of phones Vivo and even OnePlus Nord churns out, it's sad that they don't try a phone aimed at techies or specs geeks.

VectorR, 12 Aug 2021It would be great to have a top notch selfie camera on such... moreIt actually is not only very possible, but also less expensive and much easier than the Underdisplay Camera, it is called "Disappearing camera", Google and Samsung have both made a patent about it :
                                  https://www.gsmarena.com/googles_first_foldable_could_have_a_disappearing_underdisplay_camera-news-49223.php
                                  https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-under-display-camera-phone-1188611/

That's why I actually speak so much against the UDC, because there are much better alternatives, disappearing cameras doesn't need to have any special display, a simple punch hole display is enough, the sub-display is so close underneath (a display is quite thin) that there won't be any visible gab/offset, and the camera quality will be the same as any regular selfie camera while also providing real privacy when not enabled.

Acorns, 12 Aug 2021I honestly don't notice the punch hole on my Poco X3 N... moreThe issue with punch holes is that you :
                                    1) Pay a premium for a bigger display that you only partially use.
                                    2) Punch hole come at the expanse of many sensors, like the Galaxy S8/S9 and Pixel 4/4XL had.
                                    3) Force regular sensors such as proximity and ambient light to get under the display, where they work poorly and are costlier.
                                    4) Waste a precious and already limited room for the combined notification and status icons, it takes up more space than you imagine.

There isn't a single best solution, except maybe the bezels, everything else, from punch holes, notches, pop up, flip up, sliders, no front camera, UDC, etc are all unacceptable to have as the only available option like punch holes and teardrop notches currently are, by flooding the market and leaving no alternatives.
Not everyone has the same tastes, some will definitely constantly notice the hole, which is why diversity is key, besides, every market, except the Smartphone one have a lot o diversity, despite smartphones with all their techs and designs being one of the most potentially diverse piece of tech you could have.

But making SOME phones without it, like the Nubia Z20, or even the Mi Mix Alpha now that foldable displays are a thing (it was the main reason it was not done in the first place) would actually sell well, don't underestimate how many do want such device.

We live in a world where people saying the pop up is bad and should disappear is apparently normal, but defending it or saying the UDC is bad (when, unlike the pop up, it actually is) and shouldn't be on every single phones, is apparently being the bad guy.
So, no wonder with such logic they ended up killing features.
And apparently "I am the only one who care about pop up or phones without front camera", they've just been having a really selective memory...
