You paid the same, they just increased their profit margin.
To fast charge properly, you need the new charging brick and the new cable else the phone won't fast charge at max speed. I charge my phone multiple times a day for 5-10 mins (50 to 70-75%) and slow charging is a deal breaker for me.

Apple needs to get with the times, ditch their outdated lightning connector and move to USB-C.
They complain about creating a mountain of electronic waste but they didnt say such a thing when moving from their bigger iPhone connector to the lightning one!
Their excuses have run out.

If you do not need a charger, Apple decided to pollute the earth and succeed all that to greed! It's just wrong to not have a product that is essential for you to use it! They could have packaged some with charger some without!
But then consumers would not be happy to pay more if they didn't take the charger version / disclose the price of the charger!
It's ok, they've got another planet to ruin / backup called Mars!

Apple had the same concern of “a mountain of electronic waste” when it nuked the headphone jack too as people will have to purchase new headphones/buds on apple devices. Funny people at Apple.

Say that 'free' charger costs $50 and gets you a 5W USB-A brick. If you didn't need it, $50 wasted. If you did need a charger $50 buys you a much better one with higher power output and more ports. If the phone bundle were $50 cheaper instead you'd be free to do whatever you want with that money, or put the extra into a slightly better phone.

Apple has stated that IT needs to be regulated. Microb has been used in phones since the mid-late 2000s and everyone was happy. Yeah it was only for data on some, but it still was. Think i still have some old Nokia microb cables in drawes and for occasional use 1 in my car. You can't use that trashy 30pin connector from the original iphone on moderately modern hardware can you? No! Just stating the obvious - Apple is trash.

In the next iPhone, Apple will entirely remove the charging port to overcome this and call it as Port-less innovation and still force you to buy their Wireless charger combo. Anyhow win-win situation for Apple it seems

Till now Apple have been nickel and dime all the way through to riches and now the republicans and democrats in the USA will try to force to allow third party appstores and application to be allowed in IOS and now apple have to really start innovating instead of price gauging in-app purchases
