And all of them are super slow to adapt to light, and don't adapt that well.
Sometime, when I get annoyed that the auto-brightness make the display impossibly dim, I put it under my desk lamp, so it reacts quickly, otherwise it can sit there for a while before adapting to any changes...

Proximity and ambient light were perfectly fine outside the display, there are more than enough space available in modern bezeless devices to still put them.
They are just more expensive and less effective under the display.

Not hating on Xiaomi, but this kind of things are something not even LG/HTC would do.

Why wouldnt they use a proper sensor? I'm pretty sure they are cheap to buy and use.

Oh, they dont know what the issue is? What BS.

They use virtual proximity, which probably uses the help of gyroscope and brightness sensor and no dedicated proximity. What happens is that, if you try to attend the call when lying down or try to bend your head to attend the phone, the gyroscope doesnt register the change in axis and fails to address that as a proximity event. Use a effing dedicated proximity sensor xiaomi or atleast come half way like realme does which uses a shitty infrared sensor and a dual sensor approach.

most of their phones has this problem and it is hardware related so new software will not change anything, all redmi 6/6a models comes with crappy proximity sensors xiaomi is aware and they do nothing about it,go to hell xiaomi

From my experience with Xiaomi, they will fix the bug, but with each new update they will add new bugs.

Because they tried to make a quick buck by using virtual proximity sensor instead of an physical IR one.
