Problem is a lot of people get tongue tied with Xiaomi, hence the 'Mi' branding which is easier to pronounce. Now that they are a bit known, of course they want to be known as Xiaomi.

Fulljack, 24 Aug 2021in the grand scheme of thing, this is still wrong, though. ... moreOh my god, can you all just shut up already about glass durability with perpetual excuse "it can shatter". That's somehow an issue, but plastic getting all scratched and nasty looking after using it carefully is fine? Jesus christ this crap is all I listen to when people are defending this cheap plastic crap on phones that cost almost 1000€. Plastic has NO place on such expensive phones. Period. I'd give an exception for intentionally rugged design phones like all the CAT's where you expect them to have dents all over the place, but Galaxy S21 isn't that and never was. Yet it's plastic junk for 850€. Dafaq.

So while we had Xiaomi Mi 11, now it will become Mi Xiaomi 11 based on the new logo structure.

Actually, glass is way, way cheaper to manufacture... morein the grand scheme of thing, this is still wrong, though. plastic are far more durable than glass with the same dimensions. due to this fact, it gets a little bit tricky in distribution process, which are also a huge factor in price.
glass back panel, under the same dimensions of plastic are cheaper to manufacture yes, but it's not easy to distribute those glass, as it's very fragile by itself.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2021Materials don't work like that. You can have polycarbo... moreThis.
Actually, glass is way, way cheaper to manufacture than plastic/metal. Plastic primary materials come from petroleum, and metal, well, it's metal, so it's not actually cheap.
Glass is made of from different abundant raw materials (sand, soda ash and limestone), so it's the best marketing lie companies have come up with in order to improve their earnings. It's practically a scam.

Gusta, 24 Aug 2021True.. Poco should have the cheapest material just like F1 ... moreMaterials don't work like that. You can have polycarbonate frame that's more expensive than metal frame and you can also have glass back panel that's cheaper than plastic composite.

So according to this press release Xiaomi is for people who want premium devices, Redmi is for young people... and Poco is for nobody?
I mean, they have a line of phones called Poco and they don't even bother to say if they will continue to use that name and if so which market segment it will address...

notafanboy, 24 Aug 2021What about the "Mi" in MIUI?Mi is the parent name now. So both Xiaomi series and Redmi series use their parent UI which is called MIUI.
Poco also uses their parent brand but with different launcher. That's why it's called MIUI for Poco.

AnonD-990158, 24 Aug 2021Hope they stop rebranding Phones as Poco, they should keep ... moreTrue.. Poco should have the cheapest material just like F1 which only has plastic body and LCD screen while Mi 8 has glass body and AMOLED screen.
Xiaomi series should use metal frame and glass/ceramic back.
Redmi series should use plastic frame and glass back.
Poco series should use plastic frame and plastic back to make it cheapest of the three.
