Xiaomi officially ditching the Mi branding for its premium phones

24 August 2021
From now on it will be either Xiaomi or Redmi.

Sort by:

While the Mi branding is more affordable than the most expensive brands, I hope Poco grows more products like the Mi lineup of products. Poco is less about looks and more value.

JdRDMS, 24 Aug 2021I think the problem isn't spelling Xiaomi's name,... moreWell chinese language is one of the most complicated language, many meaning in homograph (alphabet) even with slightly different pronouncement. My tounge would pronounce she-aw(likes in cat's meeaw)-me. Well, by the way ME returning to original name concept. Xiao-ME (Small-ME) and Hong-ME (Red-ME). Cmiiw.

This naming change means nothing as long as they rebrand their phones and sell the same devices under different names.

yalim, 24 Aug 2021They want to sell products overseas but, they prefer an uns... moreIf you learn the pronouncing then you can say it. How is Huawei any different or Hyundai ?
Never mind that each country pronounce it out loud differently. It's how there vocal cords are practiced to work. Even all types of German car names are pronounced differently by English speaking persons and then they fight over it how it's right. Like Opel is pronounced as opal or even only opl. Well i can pronounce the Opel like it is cause my language have German language influence. So why much they make there brand name more suitable for global understanding if others dont need to do it ? Just learn the pronouncing it and that's it. Get use to it like you have got use to other brand names that are not made for European tongue

I am not chinese. but Xiao usually reads as Shei-oh.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2021you can't spell XIAOMI? okayI think the problem isn't spelling Xiaomi's name, it's pronouncing it. I believe it's pronounced "shh-oww-mee" (correct me if I'm wrong), but it doesn't look like that at all lol. Xiaomi makes decent products, but holy crap that name is near-impossible for anyone that doesn't speak Chinese.

right always, 24 Aug 2021Xiaomi ashamed of putting their name on cheap adware phones..! I always thought Xiaomi is the parent name and mi is the brand , not that matters anyway but their products do matters

Now if they could just sort out their ridiculous release policy, overlapping competing models and inconsistent software we'll have a real contender.
