John, 26 Aug 2021Who thought this is a good idea? I'm literally laughin... moreAmazing how easily entertained the ignorant are. And how opinionated.
Apple has the most convenient unlock feature, Face ID, on any phone. I use phones with fingerprint sensors and the experience is definitely inferior.
But Apple seems to trigger a lot of strong sour grapes responses from those who don't have
new Apple devices.

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2021Android boys will change their tune right away when android... moreWhilst I agree with the passive biometric line. I don't think the various Android OEMS are looking seriously into facial authentication. If they were we would likely have seen more evidence of such right now.
Besides some dabbling by Huawei, have any of the others really looked to include a secure facial ID system since the introduction of Face ID??
It seems that under display fingerprint scanners are where the Android OEM's wish to go. And I'm sure given time they will get that technology to an acceptable level, it's getting better with each product generation by all accounts.
As to which is a better overall solution, who can say. Each user will have their own preference. I personally prefer Face ID myself, but could happily live with the alternative if required to do so. Of course in an ideal world both would be the best option 😉

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2021Android boys will change their tune right away when android... moreIt's so weird because Huawei had similar tech as FaceID with dot projection that was super accurate and worked in darkness too. Google had Project Soli that used radar to do the same thing. And they all just "gave up" for no logical reason. Well, Huawei was kinda pressured into disappearance, but I couldn't understand why Google sacked it. They had a working commercial tech and they only used it for one version and then killed it. Huh? Apple has FaceID for 4 generations now.

Like one said earlier, passive scanners will be the future, not something what you need to touch over and over again.

IF what you claim is true surely a mass lawsuit should already be on the way.

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2021The Pandemic has been raging for a year and a half now and ... moreWow, pademic raging for months!!!!11111 Your fingerprint scanners fail to work every winter of every year because of gloves and yet I don't see any of you raging around how it's been 5 years and they still haven't figured out fingerprint scanner that can work through gloves.
It's also funny how everyone is still whining how FaceID is so insecure and that anything can unlock it (which is not true btw), but at the same time you demand from Apple to make FaceID less accurate and less strict to unlock even with half of face biometrics missing. Which is it? You can't have both and Apple clearly insists on accuracy over convenience.
As for people who actually know what they are talking about, FaceID is doable if they deploy similar image capture as OnePlus did for a short while with their main camera that could see through certain plastics. Since masks are synthetic woven fabric (essentially plastic), this could be applicable. But would most likely require new sensors and would raise privacy questions for sure. Though I don't know why you'd have your head wrapped in a scarf for privacy and want to use FaceID at the same time...

Its not a mere software fix, this... morePretty sure these people are so used to half baked android phones that’s why.
I cannot imagine Apple releasing a half baked under display camera like on the Fold 3 or even have a foldable phone with that ghastly crease in the middle.
