South Korea lets developers bypass Apple and Google's app stores fees

01 September 2021
Google and Apple aren't happy about the decision.

So google and Apple gets nothing for operating & maintaining and a Market place for Developers and consumers. They would have operational costs too for operating a huge online market. Seems this is unfair to both companies. Doesn't have to be 30 or 15 but something has to go to Apple and google, the way I see it.

But, of course, apps from Google are usually better integrated into Android like apps from Apple are better integrated into iOS because they control the platform. They usually already have an unfair advantage.

Appstore issues are different. People are arguing whether Google or Apple should get a slice of in-app purchases. The question is why should they?

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2021I hope passes in USA and EU urgentUS is already looking into it.

Sometimes i don't know , what logic governments are using.
They dont want google to install their own browser , they ask to install other app stores . Just bcz they are making big money , everything became illegal.
Users go yeah thats right, that's good.
But everything they use is there bcz of monopoly. I mean bcz of big resources.
Korea should ask Samsung what happened to their OS.
It not easy to make OS. They invested huge money, obviously they will make huge money.
Govts are literally asking them to stop making money. Maybe Samsung have a hand in it.

A small win for a small country, a giant win for the whole world.

Big changes are coming and nothing apple/google can do about it. Won't all be good though for consumer.

I see app stores fragmentation, app stores exclusives which will force you into downloading other app stores, developers infringing on our privacy or breaking design rules because of no oversight.

As far as I'm concerned it's good news for the developers and bad news for the end user. We definitely won't see a penny of those savings.

If no one follows then Apple might just leave the Korean market and ignore the repercussions.

Greedy Google and Apple have enough and they can create much more like by forced advertising and many else.
Like they did in past back in the day i remember where there was no advertising in internet, on any brownser app etc.
Now we can open a web page without popuping severals tupid advertisings same goes for gaming and many else.

Just because some things slip through here and there, it can't be compared to entirely unregulated or poorly regulated app stores. GooglePlay is poorly regulated and it's filled with absolute junk. AppStore isn't.

I hope the whole world follows the excellent example set by koreans. It is okay if apple and google take a cut of 30% for downloads from their app stores as it they have to host the particular app. But taking a 30% cut for each and every in app payment is totally unjustifiable. Furthermore, on ios having a single app store to distribute apps and then taxing the developers for 30% is a monopolistic practice. Hope the whole world understands this

                                    It's bipartisan bill.

It will crush apple mafia and 30% tax.

It will also allow to operate third party appstore and pay apple zero percent appstore tax.

                                    Appstore tax is history.

When that happens you can kiss goodbye nearly malware free iOS. Just giving services payment outside app store won't cause that and should be a thing, but giving people free choice to install anything will cause that for sure. People are generally stupid (sorry, but that's how it is) and they'll install anything just so they get what they want and not question any of it along the way.
