AT&T is sending out replacement phones to people still using 3G-only models

07 September 2021
Even if you didn't ask for one. However, what phone you get depends on what the carrier has left in its warehouses.

if AT recycle all those used phones,,, that's actually Environmental Friendly

NXTwoThou, 07 Sep 2021Mistake 4ish? The "We're sending your phone and ... moreThat is correct they sent me that crappy Radiant phone I left in the box. Then while I was traveling in Europe using my phone they activated the new one leaving me with no service. The phone I use is a 4G LTE Motorola dual sim phone it works just fine. However it will not work come February because it is not on the whitelist to use AT&T VoLTE (HD Voice)

This whole thing is a jumbled joke..... Yeah At&t sent me a replacement phone alright. It's the $50 Alcatel piece of trash they sell at Walmart as a "pay as you go" phone. -_-
And that's on top of the fact that I have an international note 10 model. Completely 4G LTE capable, but since it doesn't support 5g at&t is still saying they'll turn my phone off.......

Gotta love the feeling of customer loyalty going down the drain. Me and my family have been with the company since they were Cingular!!!

Needless to say.... It's all a frustrating mess, and customer support along with the workers in every store I've been to are useless in shedding any light on what's going on.
        Get it together At&t.

No 4G at all... moreWhere i have my contract the company knows what phone i have and i have not given that info to them. If i change a phone it automatically will be changed in there database. So you can have your internet turned off they still know what phone you have

Better choice would of been to send them all 5G budget phones so in 5 years or so when they lose the 4G network dont need to do it again

I received a S9+ out of the blue. Called the loyalty department and told them this would not have been my first choice if I wanted to upgrade my phone. What also happened is that my upgrade status had been used up because they sent this turd off a phone to me.
I bitched at them so they agreed to reinstate my free upgrade status and also delete this phone from their system so that it won't automatically activate leaving my current phone unusable.

NXTwoThou, 07 Sep 2021Mistake 4ish? The "We're sending your phone and ... moreAs much as I don't like monopolies, that's pretty much why I went with T-Mobile. So many perks. I have AT&T's home internet and it's brilliantly fast. I just hate that I have to use their gateway.

AT&T is trying too hard to get exclusivity. It's bad enough their 5G only supports a whopping one sub-6GHz band (5) but to basically force people to use their phones a la Verizon when they used to allow any of them is a bad move. Pretty soon, even Dish mobile will surpass them in time.

Yeah they sent me one of those Radiant Core pieces of e-waste that I now have to throw out for them.

LizH, 07 Sep 2021The article isn’t entirely accurate. Not every phone is a ... moreMistake 4ish? The "We're sending your phone and going to activate it even if you don't get it out of the package to kill your existing phone several months early". Got a txt Aug 10th:

"AT&T Free msg: Your new cell phone should've arrived by now. Let's activate it! Go to att.com/activatephone to set it up on our upgraded network. If you don't activate your new cell phone, we will automatically activate it in about 2 weeks. Once it's activated, your current cell phone will only be able to call 911 and 611 until Feb 2022. If you need assistance, visit an AT&T store or call 800.880.8581.".

Note, no phone arrived, nothing(so far) has happened to my existing phone. If something does happen prior to Jan 2022, we'll just move away from AT&T that much sooner.

YUKI93, 07 Sep 2021Seriously, a Samsung Note9? A phone that is no longer suppo... moreThey didn’t have to send anything. They do not allow customers who didn’t even buy a phone from them, a replacement phone. They should have stuck with their message says they sent out over a year ago telling people they needed to upgrade their phone. But they have botched this transition, like they do so many things.

The article isn’t entirely accurate. Not every phone is a “3G phone”, some just make calls over 3g, not LTE. Any phones falling back to the 3G network for phone calls (not data) and not capable of voice calls over LTE must be replaced. AT&T warned people over a year ago that they needed to upgrade if they had such a phone. The notices were poorly worded. It should’ve told people they had approximately 12 to 18 months to replace their phone, but it implied that they needed to do so right away. Big mistake. Complaints ensued about AT&T early warning, so they retracted it. Big mistake #2 . So now sending out cheap, unappreciated replacements. Third big mistake. AT&T is a ship of fools.

If you're using a phone that is stuck on 3G as max speed of connection, even Galaxy A11 will most likely be way faster.

These options beat the junk Radiant Cores they sent my mother and me. What's irritating is I have a Moto X4, which is perfectly capable of using VoLTE and HD Voice. However, it isn't on their whitelist and only places calls on their 3G network. The worst part is they parked the new phone, so it would've switched automatically if I hadn't went into my local branch and asked them to stop the switch. The employees were great, but this whole business has made me consider switching. Unfortunately, the only other viable option in my area is Verizon.
