Yes, folding displays do crack. You have no clue how folding displays even work, do you? The internal layer is fragile and is designed to only bend to one axis. If you fold it to another, it'll just shatter and die. Entirely.

IpsDisplay, 07 Sep 2021If this article is making flexibles, glass strength now ... moreWell, I know a guy whose OnePlus Nord 2 with GG 5 was shattered just after falling from a table.
While, my Nokia 6.1 Plus withstood a "throw" without a single scratch. Mind it, my Nokia didn't even had any certification for rear glass.

It's just a matter of the angle of impact. And as JRE said, "glass is glass, and glass breaks"

AnonD-1003038, 08 Sep 2021People cluelessly thinking foldable OLED displays don'... moreNo. The plastic display don't crack iboy. And it's almost impossible to make an bendable glass that doesn't crack. And even if they do. Then that's only possible with crease option. And no one wants fugly crease. And it's still pointless to use glass which cracks instead of plastic which has no disadvantage execpt for scratches which u can just not touch ur nails on display and u won't get any scratxhes

Anonymous, 07 Sep 2021Problem with LG Mobile. - LG was much more popular in A... moreThe V60 may be a downgrade compared to the V50 since the V60 doesn't have a front ultrawide camera and doesn't rely on pogo pin for its detachable DualScreen case, but it's still miles better than Samsung's 2020 flagship offering. It took Samsung eight months since the V60 launch to create their own affordable flagship with the S20 FE, but Samsung still couldn't get it right. The only redeeming features that the S20 FE has is the well-polished DeX Desktop Mode and 120Hz screen refresh rate. Everything else is still the LG's win - 8K video recording, headphone jack, Quad DAC Audio, and FM Radio. By the time Samsung showed the S20 FE to the world, people already bought the V60 brand new for less than $600 which automatically rendered the S20 FE worthless.

I have tasted all smartphone flavours. LG is the best flavour of all. I am still using LG v20. They are durability kings. If there is any breakthroughs in tech industry and when it is perfect, the answer is LG. It's a bummer they left smartphone industry

Dudenoway, 08 Sep 2021Yea I would definitely love my 1.5k plus Foldable to drop a... moreI owned the original Z Flip for one and a half years. Dropped it several times. No bumper case, only a Dbrand skin on it. Not a scratch. It looked brand new when I traded it in for the Flip 3. Samsung knows how to build extremely durable phones. They've been doing it for decades.

Meanwhile, that useless Surface Duo is equally useless no matter if you drop it or not.

Talking about terrible build quality. That Surface Duo is known to be assembled really poorly, screens coming loose, battery bloating the phone and everything. So, maybe not start talking about quality when you want to promote it?

Ever seen JRE's disassembly of foldables where displays got dead lines of pixels when bent wrong way just a bit? Well, that's what happens to them when they are poked the wrong way. When folded, sure it's hard, but if unfolded device falls, soft folable OLED display is infinitely more fragile.

People over-exaggerate fragility of glass WAY too much. WAAAAAY too much. I know accidents can happen, but people should stop being so damn clumsy. Or just buy a CAT phone if you're that clumsy.
