Weekly poll: did you put a screen protector on your phone? What about a case?

03 October 2021
Screen replacements can be rather pricey. Also, dropping your phone can break its camera too.

you can be cautious but,it is impossible to protect phone from scratch or drop. you just have to believe in luck and I don't have the luxury for it. I don't ask my dad to buy me one, I work for it. dropping phone without case can also cause mainboard and sensor problems in the future. those are much harder to fix compared to screen. I use slim cases with bumpers around screen. so, they don't add bulk to the phone.

Protectio... moreScreen protectors work in the same way as any other composite materials, when putting another set of glass or plastic on screen you create layer that is better at withstanding sudden bends and hits. That layer absorb hit and also keep structure integrity of front glass intact, so when you drop your phone that layer take that initial hit, and actually move slightly as its not permanently fused to screen, preventing original glass from absorbing any major forces applied during hit.
If you want to see how it work, you can get two sets of mirror or glass, stick tape on one of it and hit it. One with tape keep glass together better and create less cracks.

Anyone can say that he take care of his device but life is life, and you dont control everything so sometimes you can hit corner of table or door with your phone in the pocket, or it can just drop when you use it and someone or something bump you, and its easier to replace 5 bucks screen protector than actual screen...

I didn't use to put screen protector and case until the phones were with size suitable for operation with standard human hand. But when I dropped my Huawei P Smart Pro 2019 (which currently could be considered as a small phone) 3 times on the first day I bought it, I started to use such ugly things.

I dont undestand the additional glass protection. Protection from what?? I haven't been able to get a reasonable answer. If your glass protection shatters there's a very big chance that your screen glass will shatter too. A plastic cover could be useful if you don't wash your hands, that's all.
On the other hand, I'm for a case protection. It's not much about protection, but more like keeping your phone clean and easier to handle. And if it's in a case, the phone is not sliding when you put it on a table.

I don't use a screen protector nor a case. It spoils the look and the feel of the phone. I instead take care of my phone.

AnonD-558092, 04 Oct 2021Well, I am fairly certain they mentioned it during the Unpa... moreAlso, double checked the unpacked live even during the Note20's segment. No mention of Stainless steel. But for sure they mentioned the glass back and Polycabornet.

I only use a case and screen protector when my phone is new but after few months I'll take them off and use my phone bare body. It woythave already lost its value

AnonD-558092, 04 Oct 2021Well, I am fairly certain they mentioned it during the Unpa... moreBecause they KNOW the difference will make people angry. So they instead mention some CPU specs that are "up to"
They have been doing that since the Note9.

I watched many from sma... moreWell, I am fairly certain they mentioned it during the Unpacked event that the Note20 Ultra has stainless steel. And I know for sure its anodized coating does not behave like the rest of the coatings used on aluminium that would chip off so easily. It does not feel to the touch the same as aluminium either.

Then, on the other hand, Samsung does not even mention Snapdragon or Exynos on their products page or on their ads, or even RAM and storage class. Just the GHz, core count and size of RAM/NAND

I've always used a flip case, no need for a screen protector then.
Don't know why nobody else seems to like them.
No option in the case poll for my answer.

Campfire, 04 Oct 2021Phone manufacturers like apple and samsung make their phone... moreYou may think that. But they why they would bother trying to make the glass stronger or actually, why would Samsung bother using plastic on their Flagships/Midranges?

people cry for nice looking phones and then they put it in an ugly case! What kind of sense does it make? I've been using my phones for years without a case and have never destroyed a phone! By the way, I'm a hydraulic engineer and work on heavy machinery! i think cases are for people who can't take care of their devices!

Anyways. They would boast about having stailess steel if it had it. Many sites like this one conflict in deciding if it is made of stainless steel or not. Some say only the S20 ultra has stainless steel, some say only the Note20 series some the Ultra. 🤷‍♂️

You pretty much have no option at this point.

I am curious as to how many people use camera lens protector.

Factory-applied screen protector and any kind of case whenever buying a new phone. Then find a decent glass screen protector and usually a Nillkin hardcase.

GAMIRSFM, 04 Oct 2021Well i mean, there has been any concrete proof showing that... moreDrop tests are entertainment for dummies. The unscientific rubbish you can find on YouTube, especially pertaining to smartphones, is worthless. There is no smart person conducting those tests, only "influencers" that do it for clicks, product placement and affiliate purchases. Those with true integrity are ignored by all.

In my case, the endurance of the frame and its coating is far superior to any aluminum frame I have ever owned, exactly like Samsung's smartwatches that are made of stainless steel. Those with aluminium also suffer from worse durability. I do not think anyone bothered to test for stainless steel but they made it clear that they were using that material. It is an alloy already so it wouldn't be some sort of altered material.

Back when I had old entry level phones that where just straight plastic i didn't care so much but once I actually started working and bought My first premium phone (LG G2) I started using cases more. Glass screen protectors are nice then I discovered aquasheilds and been using them ever since. Started using Clear cases from spigen from iphone 8, s10e, iphone11, s21 (I started trading in on a yearly basis)

case is a must for today's glass sandwich phones.

Still haven't figured the fuss about gorilla glass and every other hard glass manufacturer. Especially their fake drop tests. You drop a glass back phone, even from 1 foot, and the chances are, it will crack somewhere or the other. It may not shatter or break very badly, but it could have a crack somewhere.
