Whoever lied to these manufacturers that we need bezel-less phones needs to repent for sure. With lack of bezels, best of luck with screen safety and ghost touches. We just need a durable phone that takes good photos, heats less, gets updates and last long (usable years + daily battery).

i wish they would offer an option to have no camera bump. I dont even mind not having a camera on the back - but if they can fit a simple camera in the back for taking pictures of documents then that would be great. If that is not possible - then leave the camera out.

There is something oddly satisfying about the shape of those S22 screen protector mock-ups. If the phone looks like this, I think it's going to be an attractive front design.

mawlki, 17 Oct 2021Yet we got used to having a camera pointing at our face tha... moreTrue, the pop up got from an extremely hyped tech to something that attract an almost supernatural level of unjustified hate toward it, and it "conveniently" started around the same time the first proof that China was actually spying actively on users when the camera did pop up while on the mandatory Chinese app.
Before the pop up, apps spying on users using the selfie camera was "conspiracy theory"...
But a camera hidden under the display, so you conveniently forget about it, that offer an awful quality, has tons of cons, and even manage to ruin the display, everyone is obsessed with it, what?
People are literally tools...
You have people spiting their hate online, using unlogged/anonymous accounts, while laughing at people talking about privacy...
It sounds like a parody because of how crazy it is...
Yet those same people are literally trying to kill a tech that many wants and that even if it became extremely successful won't ever change anything for them, just because it isn't something they personally want, only because they read someone else used the same keywords "waterproof, IP rating, wear, dust, fragile, fall, durability" even though all of those have been debunked a while ago.
So, it wouldn't surprise me if the pop-up's death was more shady than it seems, as those kinds of people are easy to manipulate into saying whatever you want, mainly if it seems popular/trending.

Anonymous, 17 Oct 2021You people who want a pop up are a minority , no one wants ... more[Original comment deleted, this is an edited copy that is friendlier.]
Funny how this is almost always an Anonymous who spit on the pop up and any other non trending things.
Here is the truth about it :
Most people don't actively want it, indeed only a minority wants it, but a big majority actually DON'T CARE, if the phone is good, they won't care if it has a pop up or not.
In fact, phones like the Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, K20, K20 Pro, Poco F2 Pro, K30 Pro, despite not being available in several countries, including in the USA, did encounter big success and are often listed in the top 20 of best user satisfaction and wish list.
If you look at Kimovil, best rated, the OnePlus 7T Pro is fifth, the 7 Pro is sixth, the Poco F2 Pro is also on the top 20 as it is currently 21th.
Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro aren't much further behind.
Top sales, the Poco F2 Pro who is now old in smartphone terms is 30th.
Most popular? The OnePlus 7 Pro, and Mi 9T Pro and even the K20 Pro beat popular phones like the OnePlus 6T and the Galaxy S9+, which except for the Galaxy S7 Edge is the most popular Galaxy S phone on the list currently.
But yeah, "no one want pop up", sure.
If it wasn't for fearmongers like you, the pop up would still be there.
Many people drive without their seatbelt, does it this we should stop to make seatbelts?
Even the most IP rated phone SHOULD NOT be used under the shower, ESPECIALLY if it is ONLY IP68 rated, IP68 certification does NOT cover the same kind of stress that dripping and spraying water cause.
Once again : IP rating DOES NOT make a phone water-resistant, it is literally just a commercial buzzword used to pretend the phone is better, remember the Apple lawsuit about ads with phones in pools?
You want something important?
Privacy is, that you like it or not, that you care about it or not, it is.
Bound to fail? So where are the failing pop up?
If they were really that fragile, OEMs forums would be flooded with failing reports, truth is, there isn't any more pop up failing than anything comfortably within any normal consumer product typical failing rate, stuff like battery, displays and electronic fail MUCH MORE often than pop up.
This includes on the Vivo Nex A and Nex S which are now over 3yo, and the majority of people change their phone after 2 years, most of the remaining after the third year.
But most importantly :
No one care what you think about it, if you don't like pop up, this is simple : just DON'T BUY A PHONE THAT HAS IT!
It isn't as if there is nothing else to choose from than pop up.
So why this hatred against them?
Give me a single, legitimate and justified reason to try and ruin a tech you can PERFECTLY JUST NOT BUY and that a lot still want?

Anonymous, 17 Oct 2021You people who want a pop up are a minority , no one wants ... moreYet we got used to having a camera pointing at our face that can be abused by everyone 24/7.
Pop-up cams could prevent that im the sense that at least you know when you are safe. That is the main reason it's pulled. China needs the 24/7 face surveillence camera. Go laugh and sleep well.
Mind you thinkpads have now a thinkshutter, yes it blocks abuse by the webcam. You can flip it when one wants to be 100% sure no one no hacker no government can see you trough yr own goddamn webcam. Watch this being pulled in several years. Well , you don't give a fuck do you.

Love the fact that samsung is finally releasing the phone with symmetrical bezels.
Now I'm hoping that they will do the same with A73 because of headphone jack and sd card. Don't care if bezels will be thicker.
If not I'll have no choice but buy S line.

Leojw1, 17 Oct 2021Chill man! Anything in comments section are opinions, inclu... moreExcept that you are wrong, and this is a big issue.
Pop up were both selling well and still had success when they were stopped.
Indeed, they don't care what we want, but what they do listen to, is negative opinion about some things, THIS is why the pop up disappear and why many non-senses are the only thing available in this market.
They are killing diversity because of how toxic the community is, making it TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE to do any market analysis like it is done for literally any other market in the world.
So rather than listening to what we care about, they simply enforce what they want, and if they see something that isn't trending have any glimpse of negativity associated to it, they simply kill it.
Enthusiasts were always, in every market except some mass consumable, not what make the most sell, but the ones who give advises that the most follow.
There is a reason why LITERALLY EVERY OTHER MARKET still has diversity, even fricking toothbrushes and nail clipper, despite the fact there are just so many ways you can make one, have much, much, much more diversity than smartphones who have tons of available design, options and features to choose from AND that in EVERY market, people just talks about what THEY want to buy and in the smartphone market the community spit on everything they personally don't want and act as if it shouldn't exist and as if all available devices should be all the same and all match their own preferences.
The few other markets that are somewhat similar are tablets, laptops and smartwatches, yet, you don't find those behaviors in their community, and guess what, they don't have those lack of diversity issues, even though unlike a phone which is literally a pocket computer made to also be a Swiss Army Knife that contain whatever you might need are the one that should be the most diverse.
If this wasn't an issue, I wouldn't have had an account on this website to begin with, but this is the actual reason why I made one.
It is easy to see the relationship between the toxic smartphone community behavior and how the market is slowly drifting toward the most dystopian capitalism wet dream a market could ever achieve.
One of the biggest impact vector those negative comments act from is investors, which, as anyone who is even slightly into it know, comments and news article are the main driving force behind a product success or failure, so if they see something being constantly pushed down, what happen? Well, they have the leverage to ask whatever they want to the brands they have enough investment into, and since they want their money to be safe, they won't try to care who is right and who is not, if there is negativity, and it isn't a big enough thing to stay there, they'll act against it.
That's one of the biggest proxy from which this toxic community is killing everything but the trending.
Have you even seen any other market like that?
Have you ever seen a gamer asking for FPS, MMORPG, or any other genera he doesn't want to disappear?
Or to stop making wireless mouse/keyboards?
Or to quit making manual shifter cars?
Or to stop making hiking chooses?
NO, they just buy something else, in EVERY MARKET.
It is only in this market that people are literally acting strongly against anything they don't like.
I only ever did it against invasive/over trending stuffs that killed the room for other design/features to appear, the funny part is that I am the bad guy for saying some ugly truth about something there is no other option other than it and for pointing my finger at someone spiting for no reasons against something or defending said thing.
There is a HUGE difference between an opinion "I don't like X thing" and what people here are doing *I don't like it, but I'll write*"It is awful because (Insert X and Y totally invalid reasons) and shouldn't exist".

[deleted post]Chill man! Anything in comments section are opinions, including yours. Manufacturers do not manufacture base on opinions, they do it according to stats (sales numbers), and the disappearance of pop ups says something. Arguments can go on for years, but sales numbers do not lie. I don't like foldables but did that stop them from manufacturing? In fact, it seems that sales of foldables are doing well.
