Only normal people realize that Google Pixel is always be a premium upper midrange device. I'd rather prefer to buy an actual premium flagship with flagship performance for price under US$ 898 (for example iphone 13 or galaxy S22)

OfficialTRider, 18 Oct 2021Not true. Every piece of tech be it a PC or phone, all come... moreMany computers "recycle" their bodies, so only few components inside are changed. This helps to save R&D money. Same way many cars use same platform for many generations.

The price I paid for my 💻 years ago, I cannot get one with same specs today.
Except CPU (i3 gen11 is better than old gen i5) , everything else will be worse.

Phones from 2013 do not have screen that cost near $100, no cpu that costs $160, no camera cmos that costs $40 and other stuff.

If prices are real, pixel 6 seems like a great value.
Hope it sells well and doesn't have any hardware defects.

So Google wants to be a niche player. 1/1000000th the sales of Apple with terrible Value for Money.
A mid-ranger for a 1000 bucks with just Camera to show for !? OnePlus went from flagship killer to a wannabe flagship and lost its USP.
          Same story with Google.

3000 FRF in 1996 would be ~625 euro now... for a GSM 900 device.

It seems you get plenty of new technology for the same price, isn't it ?

Especially cause of there phone is for limited market only. USA and few countries in Europe. Probably China/India also but they already have a lot of brands that sell them high quality product for cheaper price and the large part of population is going with the budget to middle range phones as the flagship is for rich people or the people who have it as a trend to show off that they are rich even tough they need to pay 24 months to have it. Cause they dont have the monies to buy it out in first day.

And Google Pixel is like Apple that have few models per year in the high end category that have limited customers. To sell well in Android market that have all types of brands that have high end phones it wont be easy to only go with the most premium priced phones

Every piece of tech be it a PC or phone, all comes with upgraded hardwares every year to prolong the product lifecycle. Plus, individual components of a phone costs less because of high production. The more the component is produce, the cheaper the cost will be, basic economics.

so pixel 6a is definitely in works i guess?

Arun makes a ton of good points.

At some point, most of this stuff gets redundant and boring. You buy the latest phone, it gets boring and you are searching for the next one and the next one. It's endless. Our lives ends up meaningless creating memories from our phone. Never going out to do stuff.

It's why I watch 1960s and 1970s high school videos. When humanity was still normal and our lives wasn't always a highlight reel on the internet.

Pixel 6 is the real value. Cheaper than the Pixel 5 by $100. But $900 for the 6 Pro is still decent because my 3 (128 GB) costs the same amount in 2018 and lacks telephoto and wide-angle.

You know they are fairly competitive priced, right? First off, Pixels never really sell well in the first place. Even their $400 Pixel a-series are very niche. But I believe the Pixel Fold is coming. That will probably cost $1500.

Slabs will be outdated in a year or two which includes all iPhones. People now will talk about how they hate foldables when they'll become the norm in a few years. I've seen the Oppo rollable. Looks cooler. Hardly useful. A motor that expands it just adds more wear and tear.

To me, flip phones will be the norm again. Fold fans saying they're useless when the Flip is destroying it in sales. I want phones to get smaller. Not larger.

At last, competitive pricing from Google. Now, if they can make the phones available in more places.

Phones have many new components every year.

Do you know what "bill of materials" means? It is the the price of hardware. No software, taxes, certifications and other stuff included.

Only the pieces of iphone 13 pro 256GB is worth more than $500.
The S21 Ultra is worth more than $500 as well.

People demand high screen resolution, high MP cameras of larger size, larger battery with Qi charging and 60/80/100/200W charging, 120/144Hz screens, 12/16GB ram, 256/512/1000GB storage, fastest CPU/gpu because of games .... Then complain about the price of current phones.

Easy, get an old simpler flagship like S10e, XZ2, OP6, Mi8, P20 and be happy.
Not having current android does not make device useless or unable to do tasks properly.
There are better ways to spend money than buying phone with tons of things you do not use.
