RealLifePhones, 26 Oct 20211800€ for a phone that takes crappy midrange looking photos... moreADD MORE UNSHARP MASK NOW!!! Add tone of it in order to match S21 Ultra Mi11 Ultra cause more digital sharpening the better you think your image is. Then we can boost some vibrance to make those color pop like a cartoon cause more vibrant color better the image, just like how you go and buy your TVs. If a TV has cranked up contrast and saturation it's obvious it's a lot better than the one next to it that doesn't have that. Then we lift some shadows cause shadows and pure blacks and whites are bad! DxO says so!

Bottom line: S21 Ultra produces good images but then it ruins it with HDR puke, digital sharpening and toxic saturation.

As always Sony phones are left behind in the camera race. I expect it to majorly underperform already it's inability to use the whole sensor is a giant red flag. Sony can't make phones to save their lives. I hope their mobile department dies, I have prayed for that for years, it's a net negative to the world.

Sony knows very well how important the pixel size is for night time sensitivity. Their A7s camera is the best full frame camera for night video because it has the biggest pixel size of 8.4, and no other reason! Any company can beat Sony for night video if they make a camera with the same pixel size, but for some reason, they don't want to do it! Come on, Nikon, make a 12 MP full frame camera or even better, a 8 MP APS-C camera for 4K video only!

r33fd, 26 Oct 2021This is the stupidest thing I've heard in a while. ... moreMost likely it's easier to use an existing sensor than developing a new one, could also be using left over sensors which have defects on the edges so full sensor read out is impossible.

Guessing that they can't use the entire sensor as it's the limitation with the optics, especially with how close the lens is, hence adding in that F/4 aperture to get a wider DoF.

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2021Enhancement should be done only if user wants to edit later... moreOh yes, customers do want their faces to be photoshopped to be flawlessly smooth, correct a mole and a wrinkle there.

TBH for a Sony product, this looks pretty damn awesome - compared to previous "pro" parody attempts, this one looks like a polished product
+ It uses the ZV-1 sensor (even if it's cropped heavily), so it does not feel so outrageously overpriced.
Sony is slowly getting there, and that's coming from a guy that was not impressed by III or Pro ... at all.
Can't wait for typical Sony fanboy flame in comments.

This is the stupidest thing I've heard in a while.

Why would they put a high end sensor only to cut a portion from it, essentially destroying most advantage the sensor had over the competition.

                  Seems insane to me.

Do they at least allow you to use the full senzor in manual mode?

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2021You should because you even believe the fake news called &q... more"did you see Canon R3, Nikon Z9 and Sony 7iv do not use quadbayer?"
God, is there any way to make you understand that:
                    1. Quad Bayer is a somewhat compromised solution that makes a lot of sense on smartphone cameras but not so much on dedicated cameras with a very large >20MP sensors,
                    2. High resolution sensors can still have extremely fast readout speed with a help of integrated DRAM like on Sony A1,
                    3. Quad Bayer =/= slow readout speed?

Please stop with your nonsense, seriously.

AnonD-994853, 26 Oct 2021What do you mean? Distortion free lens is fake? Free form l... moreNo he doesn't, and that's the problem.

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2021You should because you even believe the fake news called &q... moreYou have yet to provide ANY proof that free-form lens is "fake" despite the companies' official claims and the real-world samples proving completely otherwise. On smartphones, ALL UWA cameras with free form lenses so far showed noticeably less distortion towards the edges and less chromatic aberration compared to those with a regular lens design - this is clearly evident when you compare Vivo X70 Pro+'s UWA camera with those from OnePlus 9 Pro and Find X3 Pro. If you think that they are lying, YOU are the one who is liable to provide factual evidence to back up your claim. And no, OnePlus 9 Pro's UWA camera does not capture an 18mm equivalent field of view. I've already explained this to you dozens of times.

Now, the more important part of this discussion:
"Person I know" "Reliable sources" are not even worth consideration if you don't mention who they exactly are and prove that they are legitimate sources or insiders. Even then, any information coming from them must be taken with a huge grain of salt - Recent M1X MBP leaks proved how untrustworthy those "trustworthy" leakers with historically high information accuracy are with their leaks. Companies often intentionally spread misinformation to keep their real secrets, or those "insiders" may be even taught wrong stuff by their higher-ups. Hence, many of your claims, which include information that has not been confirmed officially, by nature, cannot be considered to be reliable. And I will keep pointing them out whenever I find your stories lacking solid evidence.

Sony must be trolling people. Said 1 inch sensor, yet doesn't even fully utilize the 1 inch sensor?! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Nah.. I'll stick with my DSLR.

1 inch type sensor is referencing it's equivalence to tv camera tube, CRT and film days. Sensor size is actually 1.6 cm diagonal.

[deleted post]Yeah, if you shoot even at pro mode RAW, with the same ISO and shutter speed, you will get better results from competitors, because their RAW mode is an multi stacked RAW, which means that information from several photos are combined, you get full dynamic range and detail. Meanwhile, this 12 MP 2.4 microns is essentially an 60% of an 1 inch sensor

But Ultrawide needs to be at least 20 MP or above, since the FOV is wider, you need more pixels to keep the sharpness consistent. Apparently only Huawei flagships, Mi 11 Ultra, and BBK 2021 flagships have done this.
