Counterpoint: Apple is the undisputed leader in the United States

04 November 2021
Samsung is also on the rise at the expense of other makers during Q3 2021.

Sort by:

Apple and Samsung are the only brands americans use, also brand loyalty is a big thing for them. There are other brands, but take a very small portion of the pie, the biggest are these two brands.

It’s so much fun reading the grasping at straws and rationalizations of Android fanboys in these Apple articles.

Rysenchi, 04 Nov 2021That’s not true. iOS has a larger market share than Android... moreWell Android seems to be the preferred choice looking at these results and that is in a country without the affordability thing to affect the buying decision. So for majority of those people, it is a better OS so they go for that one

Regardless of how long that an average iPhone person keeps their phone for, androids still are selling more every quarter. The share is decreasing but it's still more than iPhones. That can be partly because of Android phones being cheaper relatively, and also it doesn't receive as many updates. So therefore, people buy a lot sooner, and it goes on. I have multiple android phones and they are already beyond their updates support but if I had iPhones, I would take longer to get a new phone. So that is why, there are more Android phones in the population

ABF Media, 04 Nov 2021Absolutely incorrect.....Apple's own data showed that ... moreBut that does not mean the user has to sell their outgoing phone. Seen many new iPhone users keep their old ones as a backup phone. Same as some iPhone users keeping an Android just for backup.

Motorola at 8%? Doing better than Google.

Android OS and Android phones are significantly better. The sales metrics say way more about collective buyer intelligence than product quality.

L.O.R.D, 04 Nov 2021These figures also prove that even in a country like USA wh... moreThat’s not true. iOS has a larger market share than Android in the US. Most iPhone owners don’t upgrade every year in fact they keep their old phones for the longest. Which is why iPhone shipments are lower than total Android shipments.

AnonD-991911, 04 Nov 2021Anyways, I suspect the market share is so high for Apple is... moreAbsolutely. Brands like Xiaomi, Realme and OnePlus bring excellent value to table. In India most of these brands release phones under $350 and there’s just too much choice. There’s a new phone every day I’m not even kidding close to 30 phones launched this year in March alone. Our market is saturated with budget phones from so many brands.

The Flip, 04 Nov 2021A couple years ago, Samsung was only at 29% and Apple was a... moreIt's especially good progress for Samsung, because they sell phones in Android space. And still just slightly behind Apple. With their every Flip and Fold versions, they are increasingly closing that gap between a base iPhone 13 and a Foldable phone which is obviously far better. With black Friday deals, the Flip is almost as much as iPhone 13 and comes with free charger, so it's better than iPhone 13 already

-Trix-, 04 Nov 2021It’s not about lack of choice, it’s the wealth of country a... moreOf course more choices would make change, unless of course most phones are almost exactly the same. I’m no Huawei, Xiaomi, or Oppo fanboy but those are the only few companies that are really doing anything different in the smartphone industry and none of them are officially sold in the USA. I’m not saying all of their phones are great, but I like the direction they’re going with their phones more so than the western-focused manufacturers.

A couple years ago, Samsung was only at 29% and Apple was around 44%. So to see Samsung is only 7% instead of 15% is great to see. For Android fans, we need Android OEMs to succeed so we won't be stuck with awful iOS. It's the most boring mobile OS and I've used Android, Windows Phone, webOS, and QNX.

AnonD-991911, 04 Nov 2021Anyways, I suspect the market share is so high for Apple is... moreIt’s not about lack of choice, it’s the wealth of country and the way how US people buy phones. They can buy lot more expensive phones because those phone prices are hidden with phone bill, right? And with that Apple got huge headstart many years ago and because people are really happy with what iPhone offers most users stay with iPhone year after year. They would already switched many times to Android if they wanted, so adding more choices wouldn’t change that, those other choices would just eat each other Android shares, mostly from Samsung. Just like it’s happening around the world while iPhone sales stays very steady with all the competition.

they don't have any good choices, so this is an irrelevant status 😢

Protectionism helps a lot, it wouldn't be the same story if the U.S market was opened to all brands like Europe and other markets.

Anyways, I suspect the market share is so high for Apple is because of the lack of choice in the USA compared to Europe and Asia, which helps big brands like Apple and Samsung even more.
