As someone living here, it's about three things:
Popularity (anything from Apple is luxury...apparently)
Ease of use (much easier to use iphone than Android for the common phone user not like myself)
Carrier deal(s). All carriers give you even the 13 Pro for free as long as you stay with them for 24 months (or use the 'iPhone Forever' plan to upgrade every year and a half).
It sucks that the US has barely any options. I'm lucky my Xperia 1 iii works perfectly fine out here but we get barely ANY midrangers that are good and our flagships...well...especially for Android, all look, perform, and function the same (no 3.5mm jack, no microSD card slot, and no sense of being different).

Whoops. It's 42% Apple and 35% Samsung. Missed seeing the chart. That's actually good for Samsung. Highest I've seen it for the United States. Gives me hope they can open up more Samsung stores so we have somewhere to go in case we have any issues m
Google isn't even listed and is part of the 7% others. I told ya they're niche. Perhaps the $599 Pixel 6 can change things but only time will tell.

P.s. for those who trust Apple propaganda regarding their CPUs, there is evidence the A15 Bionic loses to the Snapdragon 870 (let alone the 888) in multiple relevant benchmarks regarding everyday life. It gets less fps in PUBG and Genshin Impact and fails to cool properly compared to Android solutions with good cooling systems.

It might be around 43% for Apple in the US and like 29% for Samsung, but it honestly feels like everywhere I go, it's 80% iPhone and 20% Android. Go visit Disneyland and people taking photos, it's like 90% iPhone.
Many iPhone users also use the same phone beyond 4 years. The iPhone 6 has been around for 7 years, I still see some people use it. Not surprising since the 6 is the best-selling iPhone of all-time at over 200M. It's still in circulation even if it stopped getting updates above iOS12.

Apple have been the market leader in the United States for nearly a decade now. Like when iPhone 5 was released which was available for all four major carriers at launch, it has stayed #1. They're #1 as OEM in the US and have been #1 in mobile profits for even longer.
Good for Apple. Americans get iPhones the cheapest because so many buy them and sell them for cheap on OfferUp. So many trade-in deals and other promotional discounts. I still despise iOS but that's another story.
