No really I think it would be article worthy if they (Apple) did allow it, not allowing to fix it yourself is exactly how it was in the first place, so this is common sense they would not change that (which is sad, but the whole smartphone market is sad so...)

this will only work if you have original display picked from a locked phone,otherwise chinese copy displays may not have same wiring and where chip to be soldered

Once again they wanna sabotage 3rd party repair, first they didn't wanna give out parts to them, then they did every dirty trick to sabotage their 3rd party parts after that... This is just the latest dirty trick!

This was already known, Hugh Jeffreys on Youtube did a video showing this and the rest of software locks Apple has put in the i13.
As always, other companies will at first mock and then copy everything Apple does.

What's their defence for this?
Apple is one evil company, the industry has sealed in batteries...
And they've switch to OLED screens which damage even faster and needs more repairs..
And they really don't want to to fix it yourself lol

Normally, I always oppose third-party repair restrictions top brands have done for the sake of capitalism. But in this case, I definitely don't mind not having a Face ID. A fingerprint scanner (Touch ID) is still way better than facial recognition (Face ID), especially a physical scanner.

Apple working against independent repair shops... And water is wet so nothing new here.
But it's disheartening to see that it's almost impossible to repair $1000 devices unless you shell out a ridiculous sum again or buy a new one. While US keeps dithering on right to replace laws let's hope the EU does something soon enough.

One thing, besides being put on the front side, I'd say the face id sensor really shouldn't have anything to do with the screen. Why would they put that chip there instead of, say, being one with the mainboard, if they're not intentionally restricting third party repairs? Smh my head apple.
Also, I don't think this is done for the smaller notch's sake. All they did was literally shrink the face id/front cam array a little and cut the bezels on the screen a little bit.
