I see EU Right to Repair ultimatum works even against Apple.

If parts is more accessible, it would great for grey market repair shops. Hopefully it have decent pricing.

As much as I love this, I have a feeling that there's something fishy. They will either cripple it somehow or this is just a smokeshow for the upcoming trials.
          I hope it isn't but....

This should be a good start back to normalcy.

a person buys a replacement part from apple,
tries to replace it himself, on the process he damages the components, then goes to apple service for a repair, dubble payments win for apple.

kek, 18 Nov 2021While this is good, I wouldnt be surprised if they ask you ... moreIndeed.
With aPple the first question with anything that sounds like benefiting the consumer is always
                "What is the catch?"
I would be very surprised if they did not find ways to make "self repair" as least as expensive as their own repair-shops.

e.g. a mandatory buy of some 'authorised' service station kit (antistatic mat, wrist-mat and gloves) and perhaps an 'authorized' toolset...

But even at exorbitant pricing, this will allow people to fix it at home, and if you do not live close to a repair shop, this will mean shorter time without the phone.

This is forced by European Union, in January new laws about this entry into force, and Apple wants to cut costs with this movement, shifting the responsibility for repair to the user.

Good or bad movement, but forced by UE and Apple take the opportunity to apply it globally.

as much as i welcome this move, i would welcome it even more if they - all of them, not just apple - start to make actually repairable and servicable gadgets, not the disposable adhesive glued glass sandwiches they are making now.

Its not the price part im worried. It's the repairability it the coming years...

After making their phones pretty much impossible to repair especially for normal customers they now sell parts & tools like: Good luck with that you'll just make it worse and then we'll cash out anyway 🤑
